As with most people I've been more than pleased with the battery life of my Z30. At the end of the day, usually between 10:30-11:00pm, I still have ~50% of charge left after starting the day at 6:00am. Today for some reason it all changed; I noticed the battery draining much quicker by about noon and by 4:00pm it was into the red zone, under 10%. There were no other symptoms, no over heating or anything like that. I got home at 5:00pm and put it on charge, 3 hours later it's still only at 64% and the phone is really hot so I've taken it off charge just to be on the safe side.

I've downloaded no new apps, I never have any running in the background either. I only use official OS releases and haven't had an update since SR 2977/OS 3358 and can think of no reason why this should suddenly occur or what to do about it. Any ideas?

Do a hard reset once in a while,
Done that already, am going to reload a back up and see if that works.

Nothing seems to be working, the drain is worse this morning. I left the phone on charge all night and took it off at 6:00am and already I'm down to 69% (@7:25am) and that's only going to last another 4 hours according to BBVE. Nothing extraneous is running, I'm at a complete loss.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

New Z30 owner here. I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and love it! I came from a Motorola Droid 4 which I liked but it died. Anyways I'm glad I took a chance on the Z30 because it's been great so far.

But it's funny, I had severe battery drain yesterday afternoon too around 1-3 pm. I just assumed it was because I was streaming music over Amazon Prime but maybe it was something else. I noticed the system was using a lot of CPU and Memory. I did do a hard reset and that seemed to help. So far this morning it seems to be back to normal.

I was wondering if there was something that was running in the background that I had no control over. I checked BBVE and it shows BBM using close to 40% of the battery load which is unusually high. Maintenance perhaps?

Overall I'm extremely impressed with my Z30, I consider it to be the best device I've used in close to 30 years of "mobile-ing". I just wish I could solve this rather annoying problem.

    Oh, and welcome to CrackBerry!

well why not post a screenshot of your device manager and let's see what's going on in there

I'll have to do it later, the device is currently charging after it dropped to 40% just sitting on my desk.

When I last looked BBM had accounted for close to 40% of the drain under the battery manager, but under CPU was listed as idle.

I've been having the same issues
    Z30STA100-5/10.2.1.3247

I went to the USA over the weekend, turned off my data on roaming so I wouldn't have a heart attack when I got my phone bill.

When I got back to Canada I charged my phone, it was at 100% when I went to bed so I unplugged it (1230am) when I woke up at 630 am it was down to 8 %.

I had no apps open other than the alarm clock.

I looked at the device monitor and Bbm is using a ton of battery.

I assumed that it may just be some channels updating and that it would have gone back to normal, but in the 5 hours I've been off charger today I've already lost 50% battery with little to no usage.

Here are my screen shots since last charge and last 48 hrs.

Seems like BBM is the battery hog with you too! I have no idea about channels as I don't subscribe to any but something was up with BBM today. I say "was" because as quickly as it started it resolved itself a couple of hours ago and BBM has fallen off of the load use ranking. I'm now back to a lot more reasonable 1 day 14 hours of charge left at 88% of capacity.

Mine seems to have leveled out quite a bit since this morning.

I don't know if it was the multiple restarts, but I don't understand why Bbm would eat that much battery for a less than frequently used application.

I experience the very same thing, since 4 days. Once it managed to drain a full load in just 7 hours... while I was sleeping, having BBM accounting for sounding 89%... firing hot battery and tons of data, in 48hrs more than 150mb... 1/3 upload... so far only during weekend on wifi, after hard reset it was ok...

Today it happened again, it heated up quickly while using, so immediate hard reset, the spell lasted not mor than 5min, and still it managed to eat up 8% and burned through 15mb traffic... but on 4G... yeah, if this happens once while on my desk for say 2 hours without noticing my data plan is burned down...

Weird! Is an app uploading data using BBM???
I recommend to use Taskmanager, too...
I'd remove the permissions to use BBM from your installed Apps!

Had exactly the same thing happen to me tonight. I've never used BBM in the 7 years with BlackBerry, but all of a sudden BBM is showing 24% on my battery monitor and the phone is very hot.

Battery level just tumbled within half an hour. This is not the first time this has happened. Hard reset fixes it but with other issues, I seem to be doing more hard resets now than I did battery pulls on my 9900.

Using the latest OS from Vodafone UK.

Just wish you could get rid of BBM like in the good old days when you could shrink it out.
