You might get EDGE, but otherwise, no.

Not on Verizon, he would need an STA 100-3, with CDMA, and the Verizon LTE band, otherwise it's no go. An STA 100-2 is the European model I believe. It might work somewhat on T-Mobile and AT&T, but it's not going to work at all on Verizon or Sprint. It might also work somewhat on the Canadian GSM carriers. But as you said, it's probably just going to get Edge. But I'm not 100% sure, it's might get up to H+ also. Most likely it WON'T get LTE expect in Europe.

    Is STA100-2 Verizon Compatible?-z30.png

it seems Verizon supports 1900 MHz, and STA100-2 has 1900MHz for the Edge and 3G/HSPA+ network?

The Verizon model will work on GSM networks (except you probably won't get LTE except in some limited freak circumstances), but it's NOT the other way around, the only model that works on Verizon is the STA 100-3, and the only model that works on Sprint is the STA 100-4, but you won't find an STA 100-4 because Sprint never ordered it, same with AT&T and the mythical STA 100-1. Pretty much all you can get is the STA 100-2, STA 100-3, or STA 100-5.
