I was under the impression that the Z30 was going to get the silent camera shutter with 10.2... don't seem to see an option to silence it #sadface

Is it just me, or is the camera shutter VERY loud?

Maybe you should turn the volume down.

With the volume set to zero it's still the same volume i.e. way too loud!

Silent mode silences everything. In vibrate mode, it'll vibrate on snap but no picture taking noise so you have 2 options.

I just turn mine to vibrate before taking picture. Helps then loud camera noise disappear.

Curious to know in what circumstances you'd need a silent camera shutter?

When I'm in a lecture and don't have time to copy everything off the blackboard, a quick photograph does the job. I'd rather NOT have that shutter go off. I still like that it's there though.

Like when you want to secretly take pictures of whomever or whatever and you call me a creep? Reason sound is there in first place is it's mandated by law because of so called creeps.

"Mandated by law"? No it's not. Most cameras (point and shoot) don't make a shutter sound. How did those slip through the cracks?

When listening to music on your phone.

If you have it on silent profile, while listening to music, you see something you want to take a picture of, the camera shutter won't disrupt playback. Really helpful if you are taking multiple shots, while you are in a groove, jamming to your music.

Every dang thread about the camera shutter noise comes to this, eventually. It's like Godwin's Law or something.

As to the OP, set your sound profile to Silent or All Alerts Off to mute the camera shutter.

It's fine. If it's annoying it's easy enough to hold your thumb over the speaker or put the phone on silent.

Oh, like a Leica M3 from the 1950's? Oh yeah, silent cloth curtain shutter. Ever heard of street photography? Almost inaudible. Lots of great electronic film cameras had a stealth mode, wherein the shutter and cocking were separated to make the camera quieter. Stealth mode!

Not ever camera is a loud slr.

And it's not mandated by law. And if creepshot types want to take silent photos, then they'll buy literally any other phone besides a blackberry. And if people want to commit corporate espionage, then they'll use literally any other phone. Not to mention the loads of silent shutter apps available on BlackBerry app world.

You must be joking. Your logic is offensive. Your attitude is offensive.

there is a bill going/gone through congress H.R 414 (111th) whether it was passed or not I don't know https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/111/hr414/text Australia has a same law on its books as well as South Korea who were the first ones to pass such a law. most phone makers proactively have gone ahead and implemented no silent shutter effects at the OS level, some countries like Canada that has no such law thats why third party apps are available to silence the sound effect.
