There have been mixed reports regarding the screen whether it's Gorilla glass or not. Well, I believe it's not. Mine just got scratched, albeit a tiny one, from normal usage. The phone wasn't dropped or put together with keys or anything. A bit disappointed, but still love the phone.

What's your best guess on the cause of the scratch?

Weird. My Z10 has been case-less for months... Its seen some action but the screen is still flawless. I assume the Z30 screen is just as good, if not better

I've been told by a reliable source that it's not gorilla glass but an equivalent tough glass by a similar manufacturer-after all...its just trade names we all throw around.

I brought a BlackBerry genuine pack of two Z30 screen protectors from ebay.co.uk about 4 weeks ago for around 8.00.

I'm very happy with the look and feel of the screen with the protector fitted, it's doesn't impede with the day to day use at all so it's a no brainer really!
It's only a matter of time before a phone gets damaged by me or someone else so I choose to cotton wool it a bit...

Handle your with care and glass will not scratch or break. Just curious how did you get your screen scratched? Hope you are not blaming BlackBerry.

So far I find the Z30 glass great. It picks up less finger marks than my Z10 did. Although maybe it's just a matter of time since it's so new? Either way - it cleans up a lot easier!

Really like the glass to the top - it gives the device a great look.

Gorilla Glass doesn't mean it won't scratch. All glass can, and will scratch. It is just more resistant to scratching and cracking. Kind of like a water resistant watch is water proof....

Your best case with any device is a impact resistant case and screen protector. While we all like the sexiness of the Z30, like you going home at 3:00 AM with someone from the bar, protection is your best defense.

That's exactly it, the only material that can resist scratches on the Mohs scale. Unless your diamond ring rubs against the screen.

One of the worst culprits for scratching hardened glass (gorilla or otherwise) is sand. For the most part sand is soft enough not to scratch, but every now and then you'll get one or two grains made from something harder than hardened glass, and one or two grains is all you need.

My Z10 holds up to almost anything, but it's got two tiny scratches on it from the time I dropped it face down on a dirtyish floor. Never did find out what caused it. Whatever it was was too small for me to see.

Regardless, it's not gorilla glass on any of the BlackBerry 10 phones. Sorry, no brand name glass, just tempered glass - likely just as strong as the name brand glass anyways.

If there is a screen minus a screen protector - that screen will scratch, regardless. I've never seen a device be "scratch proof".

My q10 screen has handled a lot of abuse, no case or screen protector. No issues except after i took the phone offroading in the desserts of Mexico, got a nice crack across the top of the screen trying to make videos while driving when I smacked it into the roll bar lol, still works fine though. Will replace it soon but overall I'm pretty impressed with what it has handled so far!

I think the overall design lends itself to scratches.

The Z10 had a raised edge to keep the glass elevated when face down. The 30 doesn't.

Makes me a little paranoid and so I tend to leave it face up

All screens will get scratched if they are associated with sand, keys, paper clips, coins, etc., let alone drops. So the very first thing I do is put on a protective film... or don't remove the packaging until I find one. The second thing is buy a case. However sure-handed you are, you can't protect from third party mishaps.

It is Gorrila Glass 2 I believe. Still glass is glass, pretty much anything anywhere can dent/scratch it up. I bought the leather flip she'll to ensure that doesn't happen.
