Hey guys I know this answer is probably floating around all over but can someone who owns the z30 verify if the bottom of the z30 is painted plastic or painted metal. Thanks

Is it cold to touch? If it's painted it'll feel like plastic. Tap it with your fingernail. Hallow?

From what I understood, (i don't own a Z30) it is painted anodized aluminum like on the Z10 and is part of the paratech antenna technology that is being introduced with the Z30.

Sounds like plastic. But doesn't bother that much. The over all built quality is superb.

I remember watching a hands on video on N4BB and the guy showed a chip on the bottom silver Bezel. It was definitely paint of some sort over it.

So painted metal chin? Because if it was plastic wouldn't it just be silver plastic? Anyone?

But the chin is attached to the chassis so it cant be different. Anyone else who owns a z30 wanna weigh in?

just played with one at Telus store today. unfortunately it does feel like 99% plastic. there was an HTC one right next to it and that shell was cold to touch. this one was room temperature

As far as I know it's a magnesium alloy featured in Z10. Just painted over. A really quality material used in all kinds of devices and even airplanes and sport cars. It's light yet gives volume and sturdiness.

So, basically it's a metal. To be more precise a mix of different metals with magnesium as a base.

I'm glad it's plastic. I saw the HTC One, and felt the phone and it feels terrible. Very industrial feeling.
Imagine trying to hold the phone in the winter cold, my hands would freeze and stick to the phone.

Unless Telus keep their HTC One's in a fridge then they were BOTH at room temperature.

Metal feels more cold than plastic even though it is technically the same temperature.

I have the z30 and it feels and looks like plastic. Why would they paint a alloy? Does not make sense from an aesthetic perspective. Honestly I think the phone would look much better if it was glass or metal (titanium preffered).

I do really like the carbon fiber weeve on the back plate. Funny because in the phone world aluminum is seen as some great thing. In almost any other scene carbon fiber is a much higher end material in terms of function and aesthetics. People are funny creatures

This is one of the truest things I've read in a long time, it's odd that people will replace metal with carbon fiber on vehicles etc, but don't value it on a phone.

metal conducts heat better than plastic, hence when you touch metal at ambient temperature with your body temperature (with body temperature > ambient temperature), heat will transfer from your fingers onto the metal quicker than plastic, hence giving you the sensation that it is colder
