Stiff? Not sure what you mean...
The inner rubber part? I guess it's stiff.....
The long edge, does it stay tight against phones long edge or if you happen to hold it in the middle, will the case flex away from phone?
I've never had any bending or flexing of the case. If you physically pull the rubber near the volume up / down buttons ,it will pull away a bit as the plastic shell doesn't cover them. It is right above and below them though. I hope this helps you. I think this case is great and does its job.
