There is much I do like about my Z30. But I do have one gripe. Had I known this prior to purchase, I might not be a Z30 owner right now.

Where are my apps? No, not the ones that everyone is saying is part of an app shortage. That is covered on hunderds of other threads. I mean, the apps and games that the Z10 have. I went on an assumption that since the Z30 is a full touch screen just like the Z10, the apps and games would all be available. Not even close!

Kalemsoft Media Player. Where is it? Splashtop Remote, got it! But it's basically worthless, needs an update to be functional. Most my previously bought games from my older Z10 from Electronic Arts, Gameloft, Unity, are nowhere to be found. I will give Unity credit though, as they are fixing this much faster than the other two.

I did not expect this. Can anyone explain why the Z30 is so different from the Z10 that these apps will not function on a Z30?

Mainly screen size. Most everything in bbw is coded to Z10 or Q10 screen size. Do to work on Z30 the devs have to modify the code then submit an update to bbw.

It has nothing to do with screen size. It is screen resolution. The Z10 and Z30 have the same resolution. ALL apps should be compatible unless they use hardware available on the Z30 which is not available on the Z10 (FM radio, Hosted USB, Miracast, Etc...). I assume the allegedly missing apps simple need to have a switch thrown to make them available for the Z30. I don't know if it is the developer or BlackBerry or both who need to do that. You should try to contact the dev and see what they say.

Thank you ESCON for your suggestion. Compiling a list really puts it into perspective. Some of the apps/games I had in mind were on the PlayBook and not BB10.

From this list, I see that Electronic Arts is by far the worst offender here. I take back what I said about Unity as it appears they have closed the gap. Gameloft is only missing 1 game.

For me this is a surprise and also a big disappointment. Never in my wildest dreams I would have imagined this to be such an issue but apparently it is. I'm not a big gaming person so my knowledge is limited here but I had NFL mobile on Z10 and now no longer see it. These issues should be ironed out ASAP I think.

I had NFL mobile on my Z10 and i still have it on my Z30. But i just just restored my backup excluding the settings from my z10 to my z30 and it showed up and works perfectly fine.

Gah I know I'm affected by this too. The only app thats really bothering me thats missing is the Globe and Mail news app!

The screen resolution is the same! Literally all the dev has to do is select the Z30 as a eligible device!

They do in technical terms. Both are 720p. And BlackBerry said Z10 apps are compatible with Z30 apps assuming the dev makes the Z30 a eligible device. Which to me is stupid. BlackBerry needs to do this automatically.

This is good to know. So it appears that EA has chosen to not automatically have support for Z30. I am hoping this is because of testing reasons. Either way, I hope they get these released sooner rather then later. I want to buy some at $0.99 and I already own a few that I can't use.

If anything, aside from iOS, BlackBerry 10 is the only other standardized mobile OS right now.

They made it very clear from the beginning what resolutions would be required for support across all their devices. It's up to EA to support them. When the Z10 launched they shouted loud and clear to devs that it would have a unique resolution (difference of 48 pixels) because they decided to go with 720p for all phones from then on.

Why did they do that? I don't know. My best bet is that by the time they decided on standards, they were already too far along in Z10 production. Keep in mind they had the Z10 prototypes going for a year or two before it was even announced.
