    Hi Folks,

Loving the z30 but losing lines of res is somewhat frightening.

Will the loss of 40 lines of res be noticeable in any apps or while using the device for browsing?

    Thanks

I think if the icons on the screen have noticeable jagged edges, then there's worse in store browsing and apps.

The z30 has new screen technology that makes it so that Web browsing you will not notice the loss of resolution. Forget what it's called at the moment.

That video makes me want a z30, sadly the video reviewer on the link posted here needs to follow a script more to get video length down and higher quality. I do appreciate the video. 8)

Lmfao. No there would be no visual difference. N4bb had mentioned the icons look a tiny bit more jaggedity but I didnt see it, and also if that was the case, it would be because of the resizing of icons....which will be fixed upon os update as its unreleated to resolution.

You can see it clear as day in the video.

Anyone with half decent eyes will see the PPI difference in person as well.

That said, I'm sure the screen is nice, just on the lower end compared to whats out there.

It had to do with the resizing of the icons...its UNRELATED to screen resolution. Those "jagges" we go away come the next update.

    Cheers.

Maybe my eyes are going, but I am not noticing the loss of resolution at all, the other benefits to this new screen far outweigh the minor downside of the resolution for me.

Wait what?....it ships with what like 10.2.015xx.

Update will be official 10.2 10.2.0.17xx most likely.

Hey man use common sense, and stop being a drama queen, resorting to ludicrous dramatics.

    Yup...

Just to tie it to something folks are familiar with already (hopefully)...

First device to get a new OS upgrade has an initial version. The build on Z30 stock is comparable to Q10 launching with 10.1.0.1700 or release 273.

I haven't seen a Z30 in person yet, since there is no set release date around here. However I could see what he means with the mentioned jaggier edges, same goes for the text beneath the icons.
The 295ppi on the Z30 is not bad either way and I am not sure why some many people keep complaining about it. If the new Z would have a sub 250, or even worse a sub 200 ppi density, I might join the complains.

Another small thing worth mentioning is the display technology. The SuperAMOLED screens used by BackBerry are all pentile, which basicly means the effective, visible ppi is a bit lower than the theoretical ppi you measure by sheer numbers. Same case with the Q10, that device has, efficiently, also a lower ppi than the rated 330.

To the OP: If you look at the Z30 and compare it with the Z10, you can see BBRY has done something with the UI scaling. For example there are 5 rows of icons on the app launcher screens. Taking a look at the Hub for example also shows actually up more visible rows.

I have a Z30 and a Z10. Looking at the main app screen, you can see the difference between the icons. Everything else, apps and web sites, looks sharp and I can't see any difference between the two smartphones. Really the decrease of ppi is not an issue here. The screen is sharp and it looks gorgeous

I will compare the two myself. That is the only way to be sure. The icons in the above video do not really show the screen resolution being out of kilter. It does show that the icons being used need an update. Everything else I saw in the video showed off an amazing screen. Not full HD, but not a deal breaker for me as well.

I wonder how old all of you that say it's not noticeable are.

I can clearly tell the difference between an S4's screen, a Note 3's, an Xperia Z's, a Z10's, a Z30's, an iPhones's, etc. and I'm not sticking the phones to my face.

    Are you just in denial?

That being said, I don't care and consider high resolution screens on a tiny phone useless, but it's a selling point.

Yes, the 9900 had a smaller screen, but that doesn't really matter when you are talking about PPI.

but why are people surprised? Didn't BB say they were going to stick with the same amount of pixels on every full touch phone from now on?
That would mean bigger screen, less ppi
The Q10 and the Q5 have the same (this was easier as they are the same size, I know, but still)
This was to make it easier for the developers, wasn't it?

As long as I cannot tell the difference between the Z10 and Z30, I am good. That is really all that matters to me. If it is not that noticeable between those two, then I will be fine with the lower resolution. All that is academic for me, anyway, until the price is right.

Just to out it in perspective. The z30 has twice the ppi of the PlayBook on a smaller screen.
