Mine are fine. No rattle. They're a little looser than on my other 3 models, but not enough to worry or rattle. I'm ok with how mine work. Thankfully, again, I have no rattle sound when using the device.

There are no nfc contacts that have anything to do with the side keys or back cover. Nfc is in the phone. My back cover has no contacts whatsoever, just the glass weave material.

On all my other BlackBerry 10 devices, the "rattle" noise comes from the camera magnets for, I believe, auto focus.

No its the keys. I can rest my finger on them and rattle them back and forth.
Found an "elegant " work around
Cut a strip of a post it note the same length of the volume keys and 5 mm wide.
Open your back cover and place the strip to the right of the volume keys.
Close the cover as usual.
This little strip kills the minute room around the volume keys so they don't wiggle anymore and work perfectly.

I hate when those word get mis-used. Loose=not tight. Lose=to not win.

Well, I guess being trained as a lawyer did help a little... :p

For my z30 only the volume down key is very slightly loose, almost not noticeable. You can tell by lightly tapping the volume down key continuously, it will rattle, while the voice command and volume up key won't. I will try the trick that the earlier poster wrote and see of that works.

the "post-it" trick did the job, the volume keys are not moving anymore but I used a very thin and transparent scotch that I fixed along the keys and the battery without affecting the "push" of the keys. Now my Z30 is really perfect, gone this annoying "click" sound when using it :dancing:
I've just played with my keys and can't say I notice them to be loose and they don't rattle at all. Whether I push them in up or down or try left to right, it seems... cushion-y? I've shakes my phone and tapped heavily on the screen and nothing.
So, I'd return it...
This worked, I had cut up the tape to fit the edge perfectly like a screen protector. You can't even see it with the naked eye unless you stare at it for a while. Thanks!
How does the key feel when pressed, is there a distinct click to it?
Keys click down perfectly with that lovely precise feedback. No issues at all.

I just bought Z30 yesterday. My volume keys are dreadfully annoying. Rattle when shaking phone. Rattle very badly when phone on vibrate sitting on table and someone calls. I have had two curves, two bolds, z10 and now z30. Think I would have learned my lesson with the bb
That rattling maybe the camera and not the volume keys. I have the same annoying rattle with my Z10. Sounds like the thing is going to shake apart on vibrate.

Same with my Z30. The volume keys are a bit loose. But I guess they were just designed like that. So, it doesn't bother me really as long as they do their job fine.
I thought I was the only one with this problem. It I'd pretty annoying compare to z10 but it's not the end of the world.
I will try the sticky note / tape on my phone.
Mine are not so much loose but rather really sensitive. A slight push and it does what it has to.
I keep tripping the damn voice assist thing.
Really annoying especially as the phone is so much wider and more susceptible to hitting the buttons when you pick it up.

Mine are a bit loose and more annoying without the otterbox case. Never really noticed it before today when I had the case off.

Just replaced my original Z30 battery door with the leather flip case and my 'rocky' volume key was cured.
