    Hello all,

I am a long time android user (launch date of Droid by Motorola) and I have been intrigued by the BB10 OS to the point that I finally broke down and bought a Z30 for Verizon, paying full price. I'd like to prove all of my local skeptics wrong by showing them that this phone is in fact very useful and productive. This is where you all come in... I NEED HELP!!!

    1. google contact sync. How do I accomplish this? my google account is the only place where I have my contacts backed up and I need on my phone (obviously)

    2. how much customization is there? I'd like to display a battery percentage instead of just the bar up top; is there a way to replace that?

I am sure I will have more questions, but this is where it starts. Thanks in advance for all of your help.

On point 1, once you've set your GMail account up, the Z30 syncs your Google contacts and calendar as well. Automatically.

On point 2, I'd say there's less customization overall. FWIW the battery WILL display in % in an upcoming update.

Hi and welcome to the forums.
Android users are not scared to tinker with their devices so I assume you will look around the forums and upload the latest leaked OS for your Z30 immediately. OS 10.2.1.1925.

When you set up your mail account on the device to hook up with Gmail, select contacts and calendar options as well, all your contacts will sync over automatically.

I'm definitely not afraid to tinker, but I'm also not the most intuitive guy on the block. Am I missing something or is setting up my gmail account not as straight forward as I'd think? I can't seem to get it to work.

What does not seem to be working on your mail account.

Also, since you tinker with your droid, I can and will presume that NONE of the tutorials here on cb will use language above your understanding and that is awesome to say the least.

It doesn't get much easier to set up a new account on your Z30. Swipe down from the top of your phone and hit "settings", in system settings choose "accounts", at the bottom of your phone hit "add account" , input your email address and password, save it and you should be good to go.

Several threads in the forums on setting Gmail but I recommend you go for the advanced setting option right away and not the quick setup. This will ensure a proper running Gmail installation.

So far so good. Next question I have is in regards to corporate email setup. Is there a way to override the security PIN requirement?

If you're referring to the password requirement set, in the Group Policy, by the IT Dept...No, only they can disable that setting.
If they want you to have password protection, there is probably a good reason.

ThAt is dependent on the EAS admin policy. There is no way to override that policy.

The password requirement is set from the corporate server so the only way to override it is from the server side. It is possible for them to create a policy that doesn't require a password but they most likely won't.

From what I read, Z30 should be running 10.2.
    I'm running 10.2.1.1925 on my Z10.
If you swipe up from the bottom, you will see a battery percentage instead of the bar. As far as having the battery percentage permanently on top, I don't think can be done. Long time Android user. MANY questions-battery-1.pngLong time Android user. MANY questions-battery-2.png

Especially for time frame to actually sync. The 7 15 30 days option.

OK, so I've now got my gmail, facebook, twitter, linkedin, bbm, snapchat, instagram, Snap, bank apps, and torrent client installed. I updated to 10.2.1.537. Are there any other "essentials" that I need to update/install/load/set before you'd all say I am truly setting this device up for success?

I found a problem. I can't seem to be able to watch videos in landscape from the stock video player. My rotation lock is not enabled and I do not see a setting to change this.

Do a hard reset by holding both volume rockers in for 30 seconds until the blue loading circle comes up. I do not have that problem.

Yes, back up on Link and install the leak I've got. It's much better.

One very important and essential thing you can do is try posting via CB10 app. I find the experience to be so much more rewarding.

You need to be on 1925. Anything else (1259 is acceptable) is a backwards move.
