Funny update: I was in a Verizon store today for an unrelated matter, so I showed the Tech my screenshot that I posted here. He said "Oh that means you're just on your home wifi network.". I said oh ok, I must live in a sushi restaurant on Wall St. then. ::facepalm::
It definitely is weird. I only got that little house when I was sitting a restaurant. Normally I have the same as everyone else... it's definitely an anomaly.
Maybe it's my Z30 telling me it's time to buy a new house?
It's definitely a verizon network extender. That restaurant may be in a bad area and they set one up for the owners/workers, whoever. They didn't lock it down, so any verizon phone can connect. I think it's up to 4 devices.
I started getting this at a client's office recently and wondered where it was coming from.
Today I was at the office next door and discovered they had gotten the Verizon extender because the owners Samsung Galaxy S3 had such a hard time getting a good signal. All of the people in the office next door didn't have any problems with their BlackBerry phones.
Today I showed the Galaxy user (previous Bold 9650 + PlayBook user) the Verizon Z30 and he seemed receptive to returning to BlackBerry.
The thing is, a guy with a BlackBerry Torch 9850 complains that ever since they got the Extender next door, he has problems sending text messages. He also mentioned he hears a beep at the beginning of phone calls.
I would like to find a way to disable using the Network Extender if possible.
