I remember other people having similar issues. I believe the had to have Apple disassociate their phone number from I message. I'm sure someone else can give you a more detailed reply.

The long process is to have your contacts delete the previous thread and start a new one! imessage holds your number hostage...

They are correct with disassociating your number from Apple's servers. If you still have your 5s just connect to WiFi and turn off iMessage. Apple reps usually say it might take up to 24 hours but if you're on the phone with Apple already you can have them remove your number.

Haha! Typical Apple. And they are not in a hurry to fix the problem.

I had a few of my friends who ran into that issue. iMessage is a pain

This is the biggest hassle when going from iphone to another OS. I still have my iPhone and it's a pain to switch back and forth. I have been using the Q10 most of the time since I bought it though. Do what has been recommended already. You should be good to go.

Sign into supportprofile.apple.com and click edit products. Find your phone and any other devices that your number was associated with where you received iMessages by phone number. Click the X to remove them from being linked to your Apple ID.

Also, while not necessary but helpful, if you still have your iPhone and didn't wipe it, turn it on and go into Message settings and turn off iMessage.

That should solve your issues. Your friends with iPhone, well there phones are still recognizing your number as an iPhone and will continue to until you disassociate it.

    Hope that helps.

If someone iMessages you on your phone number, does it go to your iPad and MacBook?

If YES, then you need to follow the same directions to disassociate those devices.

Yep. Turn off iMessage on your ipad/MacBook and you should be good to go.

Haha they are the one having a problem. So they realise that they are sending you iMessages even though you don't have an iphone ?

Yeah, but it's 1-800-MY-APPLE instead. They may ask for the serial number so you'll either need the box or have to flip the phone on and skip through startup screens declining everything and then going into settings. It's stupid, they have the serial number because it's attached to your Apple ID, but sometimes the make you jump through hoops.
