I believe there are *snicker* accessories for that.
So, while a "standard" OTG accessory wouldn't work, a proprietary one would.
An extra piece though...

But see, the reason such testimonials may fall flat in the real world is that what you describe is possible on any current Samsung *Android* device.
great:)

Hmm, seems Google agrees that there are OTG accessory for iPhone. (5 seconds of searching).
Did not know. Thanks
Simplicity of accomplishing actions such as the ones stated in the op are major reasons why I choose to use a BlackBerry as my dd. However, as previously pointed out USB otg does actually work on an iPhone as does attaching multiple files (eg. one photo, one word document) within an email. In most cases it requires an app to accomplish but, it IS possible..........just not necessarily efficient.
I was at the AT&T store here in Sacramento CA this afternoon inquiring about the availability of the Passport and Classic. (They had no concrete date of course) And while there I was using my Z30 with 6 active frames up and peeking at my hub with 4 work emails. The guy helping me (had a Note 3 on 4.4) was floored at the efficiency of the OS, look of my Z30 (had never seen one) and speed I could operate. (He said he would be seriously considering a new BlackBerry when they arrived) What is so upsetting, as it is for any long time BlackBerry user, is 1 the ignorance of the mobile world and 2 BlackBerry's lack of marketing that continues gives rise to that ignorance. There are so many scenarios similar to what the OP noted. I do realize other OS's have ways of producing (I have a Samsung Tab Pro 8.4) but none come close to BlackBerry. (I guess it's why both my wife and I have been consumers and users since my 9000, 9700(acquired our business with this phone) 9900, Z10, 32gb PlayBook (if I could have the app capabilities of the BlackBerry 10 OS I would still be using it daily) and now my Z30)

I have a question for the OP. How did you connect the USB drive? Do you have a single USB OTG cable?
This is the memory stick I like to use with my Z30, no need for any cables, as it has dual usb (micro and normal)

Fantastic solution
I carry a Kingston dataTraveler dual drive on my keychain. Tiny and very useful. Same concept.
Cool, thanks for sharing. Just ordered this OTG stick!
Its not hard to blow the mind of any iphone user. iphone OS is so basic and restrictive.

The "ignorance of the mobile world" is frustrating to watch, especially in the US. I think so many consumers have been shocked and overstimulated by the decision fatigue that goes into buying a new smartphone. None of them have the complete package, you always have to sacrifice something. I know for a fact Apple sells to my extended family members because it just plain works and it's a brand people can supposedly trust. Or they are so heavily invested they don't care anymore. When I woke up and left the iSlave camp I seriously considered Samsung Androids. Love the battery saver mode, swappable battery and waterproofing. But the Android OS seems fragmented and just as prone to exploit you as the installed base on a yearly-semi yearly basis.
I was fortunate to stumble onto BlackBerry after never being a heavy user. Had my father's old 9650 as a backup. But there wasn't a single ad leading me to BB10, and if it weren't for Crackberry I wouldn't know half of my Q10's capabilities. Now I'm a huge BlackBerry fan, and I'm glad it's because of the great product, not just a camp followership.

best 45 bucks I ever spent....
Not sure about iPhone but the thunderbolt usb otg dongle my wife has for her iPad was expensive and will only read a handful of image formats. No arbitrary drive access. Since this is probably a symptom of ios not granting access to a file system I imagine the dongle has the same limitations on iPhone without either jailbreak or some kind of app.
A terrible limitation that caused me to have an argument with the sales person at the apple store (sorry about that)

If they do not see the tools in action then they just keep assuming that they got the best there is and BB is dead. Foolish Foolish Foolish, and if you are alive sales dept, you should be selling the benefits too unless you want to be foolish too.
Nope, no extra cable. I used a Monster 32GB thumb drive. It has a micro USB connector and a regular USB connected. Both appear to be USB 3 capable.
I use a Sony Microvault 32gb, USM32SA1/B. It has the regular and micro USB connections.
Got it on-sale through Amazon for $16.99 when it was announced on CrackBerry, back in November.

I have observed a very strange mindset where most iPhone users actually are very comfortable with this "basicness" and restrictions. I have many co-workers who are issued temporary BlackBerry devices to travel with, most of which are iPhone carriers. I often become the BlackBerry support person in these cases, as they just struggle with grasping things. I think what iPhones do they do extremely well. Things a BlackBerry can do that an iPhone can't they are perhaps impressed by briefly, but then pretty quickly dismiss as not necessary or too complicated.
Why is it "strange?"
Take the much ballyhooed inability of iOS to send multiple email links. I wouldn't want to use a platform with such a drawback (which can be corrected to my understanding), but I fully understand why folks who don't need this functionality are satisfied with iOS as-is.
I would rather not use a non-automated device, but as most people don't need that, and get by just fine without it, it's all good.
I'm sure iOS users would marvel at how we do things too. It's all good!
Awesome...now I just need to get a Z30, still love my Z10 though
I just paid an exorbitant amount for a usb-to-go dongle - $4.95!!!!! This is a generic usb-Android or Z30 compatible - NOT for apple devices.
Although I do like those thumb-drives folks have posted about that includes the on-the-go factor.
Edited to clarify the cable/dongle is NOT for apple devices.
Thank you 1000x over!!
Never knew these existed. I've been using a USB to micro USB adapter with my Passport. Just ordered one from amazon in the 64GB size.
Even at 40$ its well worth it. IMO

I love that phrase " over stimulated by the decision fatigue ".
That makes a LOT of sense! Good wording!

Just to add insult to injury, should have used file manager and loaded your pics to your home PC via BlackBerry link.

you took a steaming dump on the iPhone with the attachment part. It's one of the things I can't stand about the 6Plus.
