Not sure if this is a ******** question or not. I have never had a need for a screen lock. However, now I do. What I can't seem to find is an option for it to lock as soon as I press the lock key. It will lock 1 minute after. Is there a setting that I am overlooking? There has to be a way to get this done. I would like to have to enter a password immediately after I press lock.

Thank you for the question. Was going to ask a similar one. I for one would like to learn how the power button on top of BlackBerry Z30 can password lock the device.

There is a setting under Device Password that says "Lock After..."

    Is that what you mean?

Yes. But one minute is the shortest time.

Umm.. you need to set up a password first in order to "lock" your phone.

Also if you use a compatible holster (that has the magnet), you can set it to lock when holstered.

I would also like a software screen lock option: once done, I want to "tap or swipe or touch" to shut the screen down and then put the damn phone in my pocket or pick it up without activating the dialer or camera by accident. I don't want to set a ridiculous automatic timeout of 0.2 seconds or a hardware button to shut it down. It is not ergonomically clever. I want to use my TOUCH phone (made for touching the screen - no brainer here) to TOUCH the screen to shut it down. This is my ONLY gripe with BB touch phones. Let the user have the choice to deactivate the phone from the touchscreen.

Here is the way my phone is set up:

I have a password set up but play the screen 'marble - number game' to unlock it.
    I like 'this game' approach.

Under settings/display I chose 'swipe to wake' as 'off'.

When I now use the top button to turn the screen off my phone acts predictable after parking it in my pockets, e.g. taking 10 photos of my pocket quickly or calling my dentist accidentally till I hear some angry voices.

If I need to lock my phone immediately I hold the top button for 2 seconds and then touch the lock symbol. Then push the top button again to turn the screen off and park it in my 'capacitive jungle' pocket.

It takes a while to get used to this top button pushing to wake up the phone and then do the swipe but till BlackBerry figures out a way around this capacitive trap they engineered the above method made my phone behaving predictable.

No more missed calls. No more random calls. No more unwanted photos.

Yes, I agree the 'lock symbol' could appear after a shutdown as a second option on the screen say for 2 seconds and then turn the screen off if one wants fast locking.

I just tap the power button and the screen goes black. Somewhat of a lock...I have to tap it again or swipe the screen to use the phone.

Thanks for this thread! I have been showing off picture password to my friends by setting the lock time to 2 minutes and making them wait!! Good way to lose their attention!
Now I can long press the off button, hit the lock icon, and show them the picture password over and over :-)
