I just got my Z30 on Wednesday, I bought it online from Amazon on December and a friend got it to me this week. I have to say that on the battery department things are not going well. Yesterday was my first day on a full charge, I used spotify for about 30 minutes and the regular standard usage. Had to put it on the charger by 4pm (unplugged at 8.30am). Then last night I went out to have dinner, unplugged the phone at around 10pm, took it with me, only used whatsapp for about 10 minutes. Got home at around 12am and did some browsing till 2am. Woke up did some reading and Facebook, a 10 minute phone call and here we are with a 43% charge at 11.15am. Will this get better in time? If not this really sucks! I switched from my z10 to this for that reason and I'm being punched in the face. See attachment.

Browsing can use a ton of battery especially if any video is involved. But give it a few more days to settle in regardless.

Whatever you do, don't upgrade to OS 2876.

This battery usage (the screenshot you provided) is about what i'd expect to see. The phone has effectively gone 12 hours without charge, and has had two bursts of usage where not idle. The main drain is via the screen - this can be improved by reducing brightness.

The Z30 battery isn't brilliant by modern standards. It was good for its time (2.5 years ago). Since then, BB10 has moved on, with optimisations likely more geared towards the 801 chipsets in the Passport and more background processes. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon S4 Pro will have to work harder in rendering modern, more complex Web pages than when the Z30 was first built so browsing can of course cause quick drain.

But this phone was supposed to take me through the whole day without a problem! I know I should give it a few days since the system is eating a lot of juice, as we all say "it may be settling down". I'll hope for the best but I am a bit skeptical now.

Looking at your settings they're pretty standard from what I can see. Maybe lower the screen brightness a bit more? Some battery conditioning..charge battery then let battery run down to 20-30% before re charging? It should get better over time. I've had my Z30 last 2 days on a charge with light use. Keep the faith

You'd be better off with a modern device, with a more modern CPU and bigger battery.

Give it some time, I did the same thing a few months ago ( move from Z10). The first week or so I wasn't impressed with battery life as I'd hoped it would be a huge improvement on Z10 in that respect. However, once it settled down I was a lot happier.
I now manage a full day of heavier use than with my Z10 and usually have at least 40 to 50 % left. I always charge overnight whatever the level remaining and have to say I'm really glad I moved to Z30.
Hope it works out for you

Whats wrong with that version? All I'm planning to do is install cobalt's version of the playstore.

That's a hell of a good improvement, I'll give it a few days to settle down and see how it all plays out.
On a different topic, I realized I can't switch the black theme shown in settings

In settings menu, display is always black on Z30 so that's normal.
Certain others (contacts, calendar) can be light or dark . Hope it works out to be a good move to Z30 for you. Enjoy!

There is a BUG. It will not allow you to delete/uninstall Android apps completely. While the icon will disappear, some remnant remains in memory and does not allow you to install the same/newer app version and does not allow its full removal. STAY AWAY. Use 2813 or earlier.

Have both the Z10 and Z30, here's my usual.

    Max Use / Heavy Use
    Z10- 5.5-6.5 hours
    Z30- 6.5-8.5hours

    Heavy/ Medium Use/ Moderate Use:
    Z10- 7-9 hours
    Z30- 9-12 hours

    Moderate / Minimal Use
    Z10- 9-12+ hours
    Z30-12-16+ hours

After 3-4 days your Z30 will "settle down". When I made the switch, noticed SEVERAL more hours a day with my Z30 vs the Z10. Both aren't "Great" but the Z30 is still noticeably better.

BlackBerry once said "The Z30 keeps you going all day" doesn't literally meant 24 hours of constant usage. I always unplug my Z30 from its charger at 5am, use Mobile Hotspot for an hour. Listen to music using the native app when in commute, then occassional CrackBerry, Facebook, and BBM while on work. Spends an hour or more commuting from work to home riding our shuttle while browsing the Internet and listening to music along the way. In my normal usage, I get 15-18 hours of battery life from Z30, and for me, that meant it got me through the day.

To add, as others have mentioned, it takes a few days to settle down.
What this means is that the BB10 OS after it has either been first activated, updated, installed fresh, or patched it is normal for the CPU usage and battery drain to be higher that normal for up to a few days, as there are many things happening in the background during that time. Settings are being created and adjusted for the hardware, system files tweaked, and caches being generated.
Once all the background work is completed, the device will "settle down" and you should see a marked improvement on performance and battery life.

Close your browser when not in use. Avoid Javascript heavy sites which are usually poorly optimized. Looks to me that your browser is draining a lot more than usual.
Keep in mind BlackBerry apps are like windows apps, just because it's minimized doesn't mean it's not doing something. Close your browser when you minimize it if you're done with it

OP, have you edited the app permissions yet?

If not, do that now... Settings>App Manager>Blue text that says App Permissions > change permissions to "run when minized" and make sure that you have denied access to any apps that you have installed

I'd also suggest installing 10.3.2.2813, as I personally felt that .2813 has better battery life and better RAM management than .2639

Oh, and see about editing your email settings too, push/manual is the best to save battery and check if you don't have any other things syncing

If the Z30 lasts for about 9 to 10 hours with normal usage then id say it took me through the day

It also helps if you're using a pouch or a case with a flap that can shut-off the screen when closed esp. when your phone is simply sitting on a desk or on your pocket.
