Here is my theory...yes just my opinion. This whole thing has started to smell way too fishy. Hear me out.

The current President and Ceo of Rogers Alan D. Horn is a member of the board at Fairfax financial. This announcement by Rogers has obviously had a negative effect on BlackBerry's stock price. This helps keep the stock depressed further to ensure that the $9 offer looks like a good deal for shareholder to sign off on.

If BlackBerry is to continue business as usual (hopefully with management that has half a brain) after the buyout, I suspect Rogers will start carrying the Z30. I'm sure at that point they will spin it as some sort of customer service decision to support those customers who have asked for it.

Makes sense. Conspiracy and more fuel to the lawsuit that was currently filed. Guess they could be pulling out all the stops to fail as hard as they can.

No other way to explain the utter incompetence to this point.

This is probably a dumb question, but .... in Vancouver the Source, Best Buy and Telus know NOTHING about the Z30. They all advise that they will not sell a phone without a contract (due to fraud issues) and they will not negotiate terms and fees. I have a low-cost service plan with Rogers that I don't want to give up. So ... how the heck do I purchase a Z30 that is 100% compatible with Rogers LTE and will run on the Rogers network? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

The target mobile shop will sell you the phone out right, just not usually on launch day. And a corporate bell store has to sell you the phone as well. Loop hole around it at some places you open a pre paid account and then you are a customer and buy the phone out right.

Good advice. Is it safe to assume that any Z30 that is carried by a Canadian outlet is compatible with the Rogers LTE network?

Not a 'conspiracy guy', but the OP has uncovered a pretty interesting coincidence, to say the least. It's definitely the same guy ? CEO of Rogers and board member for Fairfax ?

Let's not forget Prem Watsa was on board of directors for BlackBerry.

Exactly. This whole thing looks like it was a plan that was set in motion a while back.

Damage is done. I may very well be done with Rogers regardless. They really pissed me off this time.
