So what do other Z30 owners think?

I know it isn't exactly an upgrade, but the screens larger and as long as the battery life is close to my Z30 I could live with it.

Also, what are people's thoughts on how fast the Leap could be? Slower/Faster than the Z10/Z30?

    No it isn't

It's much slower than Z30, which has Krait300 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz and a much faster GPU (Adreno 320) and has exactly the same speed as the Z10.

    The Leap's screen is the same size as the Z30. And I think it is targeted as an entry-level device. I think it would be a step-down from the Z30. Here's an excerpt from the article here on Crackberry;
"The Leap comes packing a 5" HD display 1280 x 720 HD resolution, 294 PPI, 8MP Rear camera, 16GB of expandable storage and has up-to 25 hrs of battery life according to the specs put out by BlackBerry."

Is it just me, or does anyone else fail to see what's really new in the Leap? I have been using the Z30 for about a year and a half and am very satisfied by it, so when the Leap was just revealed I was curious as to what was new.

Is the Leap just a slightly underspec'd Z30? When I watched the official promo video for the Leap, I replaced the word Leap with Z30 in my mind and thought, well it still makes sense.

It's basically a slightly slower Z30 with manufacturing offloaded to a third party (less risk), built for less money in higher quantities, and targeting enterprise customers.

For me, if new Leap doesn't have the USB support that the z30 has, I'd leave it on the shelf

Its disappointing to see this - love my Z30 and i was really hoping for an upgrade as i'd this for more than a year. I don't think this is going to help BB in anyway. They might just fold in a couple of years!! what a shame!!

IF (a big IF) the slider is done really well, then it will satisfy the all-touch folks (like myself) too. We'll have to see. If it's still comparable to the Z30 in weight and battery life, then it's a win-win.

In all fairness though why don't us Z30 owners deserve an upgrade? There's even a slider coming out now, 'smh '

I'm prepared to reserve judgement until I hear more about it. They may have heavily considered all-touch fans when designing this device.

Actually the screen is the same size, the processor is slower and imo the Z30 is far better looking. It's your money, but getting it to replace the Z30 seems like a waste to me.

you can get a z30 brand new for less probably and sadly even at over 1.5 years old the z30 performs better in all aspects i think.

Recommend Z30 100% of the time over Leap. Problem is who knows how much longer Z30 will be available from anywhere except perhaps filling existing enterprise contracts.

My thinking was, how much longer are the old phones going to keep receiving updates? I wouldn't expect my Z30 to updated beyond this year.

Where as the Leap will surely be supported up until 2017 at least(if BlackBerry's support for the older BB10 models is anything to go by)

The Z30 uses the exact same OS and radio file as the Classic. So as long as the Classic gets updates, so will the Z30.

Good to know Conite...personally I find the Z30 is simply excellent - right size-shape-power and OS.

Leap is is an entry level device. For all existing Z30 owners it's a downgrade if you plan to replace your Z30 with the leap. However if you like the design of the Leap compared to the Z30 then you can justify the downgrade.

What makes you think that? Microsoft tanked every WP7 only months after releasing Lumia 900.

What makes you think BlackBerry won't come out and say all old and new BlackBerry phones won't receive a 64bit 10.4 update due to hardware deficiency?

You buy a phone for what it does for you TODAY. Not 2yrs down the road.
