The ability to load Android apps, the .apk files, without the need to convert them to BlackBerry format .bar file or side-load them is in the latest OS version 10.2.1.2141.
If you are running that version of the OS, then you should be able to install most Android apps natively.
If not, you will either need to wait until your carrier releases the update or you can use one of the leaked versions to load onto your phone.

Are you installing when you download with the Amazon App? What happens when you choose an app in the Amazon app? Does it ask you to open the installer?

    What OS are you on?
You need to be running the 10.2.1.xxx branch in order to install .apk files directly.
Additionally, you'll need to enable the feature, first, and allow the installation of applications from third party vendor which have not been approved by BlackBerry.

Also make sure you go to Settings/App Manager/Installing Apps and make sure it is set to on.

Your OS doesn't have the built in ability to load .APK files.
You should try to upgrade with a leaked version to 10.2.1.2141 if you want to easily use Android apps now or learn how to convert and side load Android apps if you wish to wait for your carrier to push the newest OS version.

10.2.1.### was introduced January 2014, among the changes with this version, the native ability to load .APK files (Andriod apps).
Currently, the latest known version is 10.2.1.2141.
