why is rogers still allowed 3 year plans the rules have changed to 2 year maxes. i would force them to do the same for a 2 year plan due to crtc rules changes. i got a z30 and have never been happier.

That is exactly what I did in November. Z10 on Rogers to Z30 on Bell.

I'm very much enjoying the bigger screen, typing is easier, and it seemed there were a few other minor tweaks. I can still also use it mostly with one hand, and use the flicking on the keyboard a lot to do that.

I was originally thinking of unlocking my Rogers Z10 but I am very happy with the Z30.

Only thing that I am missing is a magnetic case like I had on the Z10.

As far as I know, no rule says that a contract can't be more than 2 years. The wireless code states that a device cannot be subsidized over more than 2 years.

That being said, no companies in their rite mind should be imposing anything longer than a 2 year contract simply to avoid the negative publicity that comes along with the 3 year contract.

I know for a fact Rogers does not advertise 3 year wireless consumer contracts, but there is always a chance for miss communication. But OP should double check regardless, and even if it's more than 2 years you can fall back on the wireless code to ensure that you can get out after 2 years without penalty.

Also if you think about it, say they subsidize 600$ over 2 years and you pay 0$ up front, and after 1 year you want a new phone, you will need to pay 300$ to get out of your remaining 1 year, and then you start a new term with a new phone. So you can look at it as if you purchased the z30 for 300$.

Still better than buying one today for 600$ and changing it in a year anyways lol

if your work is paying for the phone, why not?

but if you're paying for it. Its only two years now, not three. Data plans at bell are terrible right now, so you might want to consider that as well.
They are okay if your a long time member. My plan is 63 after tax and it is unlimited everything with 2 gig data. Got the z30 for 250 though

To the op, I wouldn't upgrade. You are already wanting to upgrade on a phone you had for only a year. Can you imagine being stuck for a full 3? Not everyone can do the whole 3 year thing very well. I personally stick it out as long as possible as I find the transition much more enjoyable and honestly a great money saver.

In any case, if you pick up a z30 I'm sure you will like it for a while at least

The Z30 is not in any way future proof. It was nearly obsolete as a high end device when it was released. It is a decent device but I wouldn't want to be locked up for 3 years with it.

As a high end phone it is just about obsolete. If the price drops it could be a decent midrange phone. I think the real drama queen is the person saying it's future proof.

I did 2 months ago and was my best decision of 2013!!!!

CRTC has ruled that only 2 year contracts now in Canada and anyone in a 3 year contract can get out after 2 without penalty.

As I stated in the first post i'm happy with the Z10 currently I only looked at the bell deal because its 0 dollars to do the upgrade. I do understand the issue most have brought up about being stuck in another 3 year plan. With the speed that phones are released it almost seems criminal to have someone locked into one so long.

The CRTC rulling only applies to consumer plans.

    This is a Corporate plan!

No Doubt, GO FOR IT.. the best ever made by blackberry is Z30

Hey guys so i've had a black Z10 since about feb 12 of last year and I enjoy the phone and its has only gotten so much better with all the os updates. I'm currently on a rogers 1GB plan and paying the standard rate for that plan. My question to all of you that have made the switch my company is switching all works phones from rogers to bell and I can get a Z30 for 0 dollars and bell will buy out my existing contract which will be 2 years left come februray. i'm a regular member on this site so i've already done my research and I'm aware of what the Z30 brings to the Table vs the Z10. So i'm kinda of on the fence right now because I was oringinally only going to upgrade to the successor to the Z30.

    What would you do..?

Sorry but this is incorrect. The rule is not retroactive, it only applies to new agreements after the wireless code came into effect.

It can't be 3 years if it's on Bell. It's a maximum 2 years in Canada now.
Actually, for Corp plans it can still be three years. My personal phone is through my Corp employee plan with Bell as well and I just upgraded to the Z30 for free on three year contract. I can still upgrade in 18 months without penalty. I don't regret it a bit.

I just made the jump from Z10 yesterday. The Z10 battery is a deal killer for me. I use the hotspot function, and even when I carried a spare battery I would burn through them.

The Z30 is a grown-up, serious phone and it seems to have plenty of computing power to last for two to three years.

3 years contract? Wow. I am getting the Z30 for 40 euro with a Vodafone 1 year contract (60 euro per month 4gb data and unlimited voice) here in the Netherlands. With the 75 euro per month contract it is for free with KPN actually when you sign up for 1 year.

Honestly I would never sign for a 3 years deal.
