As per the topic, for those that have both the Z30 and the PlayBook, how does the Z30's "Natural Sound" stereo speakers compare to the PlayBook stereo speakers in terms of loudness, clarity and base response?

I know it isn't exactly fair to compare a smaller device's speakers to the PlayBook's due it having more space for speaker movement/displacement, but I figured with improved technology and advancements the sound may at least be comparable.

    Thanks.

the playbooks speakers are pretty fantastic as it is. Hopefully a Z30 owner could fill in

They are nowhere near matching up to the speakers on the playbook, but are very nice for a phone.

Some reports said the Z30 was better. The PlayBook is awesome so I'm curious to see a comparison as well. I might grab an unlocked Z30 off Amazon. It's only $630.

I have the HTC One as my secondary phone for work. The PlayBook sounds way better than the One (I have both). The one video review I've seen for the Z30 shows that the Z30 speakers are better than the HTC One.

That's why I was curious as to how the Z30 compares to the PlayBook.

I guess I'll get to see for myself in a few days

I find the Z30 speakers and "natural sound" to be preferable to the PlayBook.

Will try post up a video comparison.

From my observation however, the Playbook's are obviously awesome.

The Z30 doesn't have that much volume in comparison though for a phone it rocks. In quiet surroundings, I hear every fine detail fine enough - ever the lower ends.

To the OP, your not getting audiophile quality off any smartphone and most would argue off any digital device.

Did a comparison and I have to give it to the PlayBook because the larger speakers can fill a room better than the Z30. Other from that I would say they are even on the quality side.

I would say that the z30 speakers are better, the sound seems to be more full, and not directed.

You will be pleasantly surprised with the output of the z30. As long as the speakers dont get gummed up like my 9780 with dirt, girt and whatever else. No audiophile is going to call the z30 or the playbook speakers good though. They are some of the better ones among phones and tablets but far from being considered audiophile quality.

I find the z30 speakers too quiet at low volume levels. Playbook can fill a room better but for viewing anything yourself on the z30 the speakers are plenty loud and have a decent freq range. I find one side of the z30 is slightly more bassy than the other where the playbook sounds more even with identical speakers (I would asssume) placed equally apart.

I think the above a good summary. I was listening this morning to Bach Brand.Con.No.3. It is very acceptable on the Z30 speakers at a personal volume, much better than any other phone I have heard.

Just so you guys know that "natural sound" is referring to the call quality because of 4 microphones built into the phone. Thus allowing for better noise cancellation and voice pick up.

Received the Z30 today, I did some testing on the speakers and compared it to my HTC One and PlayBook.

    My first impressions:

    - The Z30 is louder and clearer than the HTC One.
    - The HTC has a slight edge in regards to bass (But that's what BeatsAudio is known for anyway, I'll take clarity over distorted bass any day).
    - The PlayBook speakers are still a lot better than both the Z30 and HTC One. (Not surprise here as they are larger).

The Playbook speakers are night and day better than the Z30 speakers. But Z30 still has good speakers.

One thing - The Z30 speakers sound noticeably better, louder and fully when the screen is facing upwards, and the back is resting on a flat surface.

Big assumption here, could it be because the sound is bouncing off the table. Can an audiophile comment?

I noticed many new laptops have speakers facing diagonally downwards as well (Dell XPS 15 for example).

Weird - I found it the opposite. I get the best sound out of it by putting it face down. I then take the tin-ish sound away by putting a light shirt or something on top of it.

I might do a comparison when I can, but from listening to the two - the speakers in the PlayBook are better positioned for sound - therefore are more direct. The playbook has higher overall volume, although the Z30 seems to have a fuller sound, more bottom end in the mix.

I hope to post a video shortly.

EDIT - I take that back. I actually think the Z30 has equal or more volume compared to the PlayBook. Video soon!
