How do you know if you're connected to LTE? Does it say 4G? 4G LTE? LTE?

    Many thanks.

It will say 4GLTE, at least on AT&T. Unfortunately I haven't seen it on my Z30, but 4G is plenty fast enough for my needs.

Videotron. They're launching their shared LTE network with Rogers tomorrow.

If its associated with rogers you will see you signal meter on the top right of you home page show LTE. Even with rogers it's spotty at best and they are continuing to roll out more areas with LTE service

Videotron launched their shared LTE network yesterday and despite having a new LTE SIM card, LTE does not work on my Z30.

I've been told this is because:

1- My Z30 is not LTE compatible.

2- It will never work on LTE because the Z30 was not offered by my carrier.

3- BlackBerry will need to update the Z30 software in order for my device to be compatible with their LTE network.

4- I need to provide my carrier with my IMEI number.

Perhaps I'm being incredibly naive here but given the my phone is factory unlocked and has band 4 LTE support, shouldn't it be as easy as inserting a new LTE SIM card and voila, LTE?

I believe videotron on LTE works on the the 700Mhz, as far as I can see there are only 2 z30 models that will be compatible with this, the STA100-3 and the STA100-1.

They probably figure your internet connection has to be fast to keep up with the cars. Or something like that. :P

    Thanks for the reply.

Videotron owns band 13 spectrum but their current LTE network is shared with Rogers using band 4 spectrum.

Not that simple. Depending on the model and the carrier, the phone will get LTE or not. I had AT&T on my 100-5 Z30 and LTE coverage was spotty to none existent in San Diego depending on the area. I had strong LTE coverage in Irvine, California, and spotty in Los Angeles. Now I am on T-Mobile and the LTE coverage in San Diego is strong around the county. This is because the band on my phone are more compatible with T-Mobile 's bands that AT&T. My wife's Z10 (AT&T brabded) had strong LTE pretty much every where while on AT&T since it was one of their phones. On T-Mobile, LTE is not that strong around San Diego (mostly stays on 4G while mine shows 4G LTE). This is why she got a factory unlocked Z10 that is more.comoatible with T-Mobile's network instead.

Thanks for all the help so far everyone.

My Z30 supports LTE on band 4. My carrier operates their LTE network on band 4. I also have an LTE SIM card from my carrier. Is my Z30 LTE ready out of the box or does it require an update from my carrier in order to work?

If the latter, does this mean I'll never have LTE because my carrier never offered the Z30?

Try a Rogers lte sim and see if it works. Also double check your lte is enabled in mobile network settings. Keep in mind lte is a battery eater
Z30 should work out of the box on lte.
Most gsm carriers in Canada such as Rogers need no device information, just pop in sim and device connects to towers. That said, if they were CDMA previous, they may in fact require your imei due to legacy systems expecting device programming on account. MTS in Manitoba seems to

It works on Rogers LTE. When I use my LTE SIM card, I don't even have an option to select LTE. All the networks show up in a scan but none of them are LTE.

The official line from my carrier is that the Z30 is not certified for use on their network and that I will have to contact BlackBerry for a "software update". Given that Videotron never offered the Z30, I figure contacting BlackBerry won't accomplish a thing.

Apparently the Q5, Q10 and Z10 will eventually be certified but it looks as though I'm outta luck with my Z30.

Borrowed my cousin's SIM card to test in my Z30 STA 100-5 and got all the 4G/LTE in NY five boroughs, the same as w/ my TMO card.
SM uses TMO's network, so both are practically the same. My cousin is using Z10 STA 100-3

100-5. It supports my carrier's LTE bands so I really don't understand why it doesn't work.
