I know there are about a zillion posts on this forum about sideloading. I'm so busy with work I need ask a big favor, which is for hand-holding.

I've had every flagship BB device ever and have never sideloaded anything. I'm now using the Priv as my primary device and happen to have a Z30 laying around as my alternate backup device.

I subscribe to Tidal for high-def music. I want to run it on the Z30 because I want to use BlueTooth in-ear monitors with aptX and the Z30 has aptX support, while the Priv doesn't. But Tidal doesn't have an app that will run under BB10, only Android (and some other OS I can never remember).

Can I please have someone walk me through the shortest path to doing whatever I have to do to get Tidal to run on the Z30?

I've seen some threads and posts on these forums saying people have done it successfully, or reasonably successfully, but they casually refer to sideloading and related terminologies that I'm just not the least bit familiar with, without ever saying how to do it. They assume people know.

Then I see forum threads where people ask about sideloading, and others reply with "read all my posts on the forums and you'll learn how."

Is it possible to just tell me what to do? (I run Windows, if that matters.)

If this is a realistic request, I'd sure appreciate it.

    Thanks!

first of all, what version of android runtime does Tidal need to work? if its higher than 4.3 then you are out of luck. That's the best the Z30 can do.

Is this the app you want? Looks like it is available on the Amazon App Store.

Looks like that's the end of that for me, then: Which-Android-versions-are-not-compatible-in-HiFi-mode

I have no idea why the Priv doesn't have aptX support. I saw old reports that it was maybe in the plans for the future and I've been pushing a friend on the inside to push the appropriate dev team, but by now it seems hopeless. Too bad because it seems it will make a considerably noticeable difference when using high-def music with high-end BT IEMs that have aptX support (as mostly all of the betters ones have today).

    Thanks!

I have Tidal installed on my Priv and use HiFi mode for all downloads and streaming and it works perfectly fine. Works right out of the box, very straightforward. Smooth as silk.

The two limitations discussed in the prior posts in this thread are the fact that there's no aptX support on the Priv (for better quality that may or may not even be noticeable, depending on who you ask and the quality of your headphones) and the fact that Tidal cannot be sideloaded onto the Z30.

But Tidal doesn't need to be "sideloaded" on a z30, it's right in the amazon App Store right on the device.

Sorry, but I still haven't been able to figure out how to do this. If I go to the Z30 and log into my Amazon account and search for Tidal, I find Tidal for Android and it doesn't give me any way to install it. It just says it's only available for download onto Android devices.

Any way I can please get more specific guidance?

    Thanks!

I have never tried it, but on your z30, open the Amazon Store app (not Amazon in your browser). Search for Tidal, click on it and download. No side loading necessary.

See the icon with the splat third row, last column.

Cool! Thanks! (I had tried that route but couldn't find the Amazon AppStore in BB App World and for some reason didn't see the icon showing I already had it when I looked for it earlier.)

Got it installed. However, it immediately said there's an update available, but when I went to install it, it asked me to "sign in" (to my Google account, I assume, for the Play Store), but then when I did I got a notification saying "No eligible devices for app install" and it wouldn't let me update it, even though in my online Tidal account it does already show it as an authorized device listed there.

The version it shows on the Z30 is older than the one on my Priv. I get this prompt on the Z30 to update every time I launch Tidal.

Am I out of luck, and I'll just have to continue to use the older version and that's it?

    Thanks!

You will not be asked for a Google ID for an app downloaded via Amazon app store.

As to getting Google Play Store on your Z30, as suggested above, I highly recommend doing so with Cobalt's method. I prefer this to Amazon.

Here is a link to the only thread to read on Cobalt's Google Play:

Start on the first post and follow it exactly. That's everything you need to do.

Tidal requires Android 5 and above. BB10's Android Runtime is forever stuck at v4.3.
