I have used holsters for all my BlackBerries, including my Z10, which seems to be quite visible on my waist already.
But I have always liked the holster idea... it frees up more pocket space, reduces the chance of scratching my phone with keys or coins, puts the phone in sleep mode which extends battery life, easily accessible all the time, etc.
I have a friend that has a gs4 and uses the otter box defender with the holster. It's all in what you like. I would use a holster with the z-30 for sure.
I use a holster for mine, it's not too big for having on the waist. I have been using holsters since I started using BlackBerry devices with the Storm 9530, for me it is truly the only way to carry a phone. I have a better feel of the vibration alerts when it is on my waist in a holster vs. in a pocket.

But for Z30... is it too big to use a holster?
I have the holster and flip case. Both work great but one major downfall is they turn on when the top button is pressed even while in the holster/case. Be prepared for pocket reboots.... I was very disappointed to discover this.
I'm using a holster and am also waiting to receive the OEM BlackBerry holster I ordered off EBAY. Hard to find them as everyone is out of stock. Verizon removed it from their website altogether.
The holster works well and I had the same concern that the phone might be too big. It's not, I assure you.
BTW, for my Z10, I have been using a Transformer case + a Seidio Active holster since Feburary (thanks for a creative forum member that I couldn't remember his/her name). The Transformer case comes with a screen protector so basically my Z10 is covered head to toe. I have dropped my phone multiple times but there was no damage at all to my Z10. The Seidio Active holster was actually designed for Motorola Atrix HD, but it happens to fit very well with the size of Z10 + the Transformer shell.

It doesn't do this for me. Won't turn on by accidental press of the top power button which the flap is overtop.
Got the BlackBerry OEM holster today. It's excellent!! It was hard to find one though, been trying for a while and finally got one off eBay. Everyone seems to be out of stock on this.

Do you think it has room for a Z30 with a thin case? The OEM one for Z10 only fits a naked Z10, no room for a case.

It wouldn't as it's a very snug fit. But with the holster you may decide you don't need the case. If I'm not using my phone it's always in the holster.

I found myself dropping my phone from time to time when the phone is not in holster...
