I get that a lot too - reps will ask me if they can play with the phone I just bought as they haven't had a chance to play with one yet. Fun times.

Or you know you get sold one that they already played with and attempted to box back up.

Im still bitter about that.

Thought I would share this

I was in Best Buy in Whitby Ontario today.and asked a male employee in the cell phone dept if he had any
Z30's in stock.

Male Employee: Looking around and then asked me Z30?
Me: Yes it just came out and its made by Blackberry.
Male Employee: One sec while I ask someone. So he asked a female employee if they have any Q30's so I
quickly corrected him.
Female Empoyee: Yes there is a demo in the middle cabinet!
Male Employee looks and deesnt see it so he asked the female employee where it is
Female Employee: Its the box there that says Z30 on it
she pulls it off the shelf that was in plain site and hands it too him. He takes it out of the box and so I asked
if he could turn it on. He fumbled for a while and asked the female employee how to turn it on.
She shows him and then I held out my hand. I was actually very impressed with it as I have never tried a Z10
and I own a Q10. I then asked him if I could buy it outright and he said I could only buy it on contract or as an
upgrade. So I asked him how much could I get for a trade in on my Q10. He said $50. So I asked him if
he could double check on that as I said it didnt sound right. Of course he asked his female counterpart again
and she said $200. So I played with the Z30 for a while and thanked them both. I think I am going to Telus to by
one. Oh forgot to mention when I asked the female employee what was the difference between the Z10 and
Z30 (just for fun) and she said there is no difference at all except the model number so I had to hold it
side by side to the Z10 and asked her if she saw a difference. I also told her to compare the specs since she
might be selling a few in te next little while. I really dont understand why the Z30 is available at Best Buy
and the sales staff are not even aware of it, let alone know how to use it. There is something seriously wrong
with what I experienced today! As I was leaving, I noticed them playing with it.

You will find nuts everywhere in all occupations in all thinkable ways... Beside career progression and advanced education it needs individual interest to be good in your job. But your interest keeps on sleeping if you DON´T KNOW what should or could bound your interests... No employee walks every morning nosy through the rows of goods to "discover" the new ones.... But he/she would, if his/her individual interest was awakened by a suitable advertising!!!! And so the circle is complete: Boulben bears partial blame to the incompetent sales consultant.... I´m sure Boulben would also feel compelled to ask the chick for support if he would be forced to give a counselling to BlackBerry 10 (what his future job should be at Staples, Walmart or Best Buy!)

I had a similar experience in a Bell store. The guy tried to tell me there was no difference between a Z30 and a z10. I corrected him. Then he tried to tell me BlackBerry was dead. I corrected him and explained about security issues for companies like mine. He tried to say the competition was as good. I corrected him again.

Very aggressive guy, and one can only imagine the impact of this sort of thing going on across the country, combined with no marketing from BlackBerry to speak of.

I had a guy at tmobile here try to tell me that blackberry was dead. I asked him "Do you still get blackberry phone in stock" he said "Yeah, but not many" I said "Then they are not dead now tell me about the phone" he kept trying to push samsung on me and I had to firmly tell him. "I would cancel my service before I buy an Android phone so you can hang it up" he kept pushing android so I turned around and walked the hell out and went to another tmobile store where the nice young lady admitted that she didn't know much about blackberry and we played with one together by the end she was like "I didn't know blackberries did all that"

Isn't their truth to this statement? There are more than a few threads of people here pretty offended that <fill in the name of the store> is not familiar or actively promoting BB. Is it really so surprising given the state of affairs?

The sales person approached me and asked if I needed help, I said yes I came to see the BlackBerry Z30. He immediately pointed me to someone who was there showing off the device. I was amazed at how knowledgeable he was before realizing it was a BlackBerry rep. He was very excited when I whipped out my Z10 and to know that I'm a die hard BlackBerry fan/customer. We were both happy people to say the least. He will be present in the Telus store at Fairview mall on Friday 25th so that's when I will be picking mine up for sure. If you will be in the North York area on Friday you should check Telus out also. Bring some BlackBerry love and pick up your Z30

To be fair I bet the sales reps know as much about the phone they love as any fanboy coming into the store loving a different brand. What percentage of the crackheads here on CB know as much about other platforms and all the nuances of the OS and usability?

That said however, the sales reps should at least pay attention to any training given to them by manufacturer's reps or whoever familiarizes them about new products. While they can't be expected to know as much as a BB user they should know the highlights of the platform unlike the rep in Whitby mentioned by the OP. If they receive no training at all then blame is really on the store or chain management and perhaps even on Blackberry.

True, and yes the staff in these retail locations can be hit an miss, I went into a Bell store to get a charger for my phone and the rep there was excellent he was really interested in the Z10 I had at the time even though he was a big android user, we talked for about half an hour I showed Jim the crackberry Web site and he loaded it into his browser on his S4, said it was a good resource for BlackBerry customers and thanked me, on the other hand he is the exception to the rule.

The thing is a majority of people don't either care or have the time to research this stuff like us phone geeks do. So they go to the best buys and Future shops of the world and look to the staff to provide them with the best products for their needs and what they get is a kid who can barely sell them AA batteries without asking someone what they are, it's a shame really that these businesses run this way.

I have been reading all these post with interest trying to think of solutions.

As I see it the smart phone and tablet's has really come on fast so maby a lot of people are just going to have to catch up by education themselves via reading forums like CrackBerry or watching videos on YouTube, just examples.

The main stream media does not help BlackBerry® we all know that; there is just something OFF there. I don't care if it is the US or Canada.

I use news apps on my phone and I added an Canadian news app thinking this will help me keep up with the news on BB, boy was I wrong. It is the one called 'News Feeds Canada'. To start with for any news about BB you have to subscriber to Globe & Mail, now they give other news feeds free.

When the Z30 was introduced in Canada I saw nothing on this app about it, They talked about the New iPad that is coming in a month and the new Curved screen phone form some maker, can't recall which one, that is coming in a week. There was no news about the BlackBerry® Z30.

All we can do is just keep doing the best we can, we are living during strange times...!
