A few months ago I gave up on BlackBerry after Thor and Co made it clear they had no clue. I'd had enough and said my Z10 and PlayBooks were my last devices and that when my contract was up in February I'd be switching platforms.

Then I learned my company was dumping BlackBerry BES next January (2 months before my contract would expire again) so any BlackBerry I bought would be useless to me for 2 months and I would have to acknowledge I was buying an unsupported device and would be on the hook or without email if I went that route. It seemed the writing was on the wall.

Well the date came and I looked in detail at Apple, Samsung, Nexus and HTC ( I hate windows interface so didn't spend much time on MS). The more I looked the more I just wanted a bigger screen for my Z10. I looked to see if I could demo a Z30 but nobody had anything except dummy demo shells.

A few days ago I finally just gave in and bought a Z30 sight unseen. I'm glad I did. It's probably my last BlackBerry but I had to wring out every last minute because none of the other devices are nearly as productive for me. It's not perfect and my kids still laugh at how crappy it plays Flappy Bird compared to even an iPhone 4s but for me the gain I get for 10 months is worth going with a crappy other phone for 2 months next year. In the meantime I have ten months to talk them out of canceling the service.

The patron saint of lost causes (Commodore, OS/2, Betamax, and BlackBerry )

I don't think it's really time to write the eulogy until BlackBerry closes the doors. And flappy bird plays crappily on any platform
That being said, are you on the latest 2.1? Android apps play much smoother than they did, although I still prefer native apps.

If everyone buys a Z30 like yourself BlackBerry will stay alive somehow.

I upgraded to a Z30 from an iPhone 5 and consider it an improvement in nearly every way. Enjoy it!

Why the negativity? I've thought things were finally starting to look up, seeing as BBM is steaming ahead, the BlackBerry Z3 being launched soon with the Q20 heading up the rear, BE12, QNX still dominating the auto market, 10.3 on its way, and a load of other things

My Z30 I expect to be a great device for at least two years. I hope BlackBerry continues to manufacture some phones, but the consumer smartphone market is 'overbuilt'. BlackBerry should make a few top end devices and licence it's software and contract out the rest of the manufacturing.

What are they going to use instead of BES? Keep in mind BB10 works fine with active sync, ISA etc. I am using mine with Microsoft ISA and it works for email/calendar/tasks/memo/contacts (even remote lookup in company directory etc). Not all these features work correctly or at all on some of my co-workers non blackberry devices.

When my company (one of the world's largest tech companies with hundreds of thousands of employees) moves off BlackBerry BES entirely after being one of the biggest customers and you can't find z30's in any Canadian retail stores it's very hard not to be negative. That said, I still believe this is the best platform for business bar none. Its a damn shame and I hope it goes differently but I'm going sticking with BlackBerry as long as I can.

As for Flappy Birds, yes dumb but that's how Apple and Samsung win over users. Try it on a z10/z30. Damn near unplayable. (and yes I'm on the latest 10.2.1.2102 OS ).

I'm in Toronto and had the same trouble...until I called Rogers. It's now available (and in stock) for $49.99 on a 2-year contract, with a $50.00 rebate, meaning the Z30 is now FREE on Rogers.

It's free on a two-year extension for Telus too...

If you like BB10, it's a great phone. If not, then not. Most here tend to like BB10...
