Had to do it one last time
A few months ago I gave up on BlackBerry after Thor and Co made it clear they had no clue. I'd had enough and said my Z10 and PlayBooks were my last devices and that when my contract was up in February I'd be switching platforms.
Then I learned my company was dumping BlackBerry BES next January (2 months before my contract would expire again) so any BlackBerry I bought would be useless to me for 2 months and I would have to acknowledge I was buying an unsupported device and would be on the hook or without email if I went that route. It seemed the writing was on the wall.
Well the date came and I looked in detail at Apple, Samsung, Nexus and HTC ( I hate windows interface so didn't spend much time on MS). The more I looked the more I just wanted a bigger screen for my Z10. I looked to see if I could demo a Z30 but nobody had anything except dummy demo shells.
A few days ago I finally just gave in and bought a Z30 sight unseen. I'm glad I did. It's probably my last BlackBerry but I had to wring out every last minute because none of the other devices are nearly as productive for me. It's not perfect and my kids still laugh at how crappy it plays Flappy Bird compared to even an iPhone 4s but for me the gain I get for 10 months is worth going with a crappy other phone for 2 months next year. In the meantime I have ten months to talk them out of canceling the service.
The patron saint of lost causes (Commodore, OS/2, Betamax, and BlackBerry )
