I am still waiting for a slide-out keyboard.
We're on our 4th BB10 device and still nothing that looks like a Torch.

I'm holding one and looking it right now and I have to say I think the design is excellent. The grey slab lends a certain, design flair to it.

Does it look like it's a separate piece that maybe replacements may be found for on Ebay someday? I replaced the carrier branded bottom panels on a couple of OS7 phones I used to have with plain ones that I got off eBay.

The bottom is not separate it's is the whole frame around the phone

I don't have a Z30 but I think this is metal and is part of the frame that one sees on the side of the phone which creates a nice trim.

The middle silver layer is part of the silver bottom, all one piece. As for what the material is, probably some kind of metal covered with something else that gives it it's silver color. Feels like a plastic type coating or finish.

I know my old phone is a White Torch 9810 with chrome trim and I really like that combo. I have even gotten compliments on it.,,!

I had a Torch, and the chrome colour unfortunately scratches off over time... Hope that isn't the case with the Z30.

Yes, I tested the trim on my Torch with a magnetic and the trim on the Torch is placstic.
I was just thinking how nice a while case looks with a silver trim.

I am sure the Z30,s trim is metal.

The magnet trick would only tell us that the material is non-ferrous. It could still be aluminum (or any other metal for that matter).

EDIT: I'm talking Z30. We already know the Torch was plastic.
