Games data files

Hey, I searched but couldn't find a definitive answer.
Games such as batman or similar don't they download their data on the external card?
Or is the game one whole massive file?
Or is it like android separate app and separate data.
I'm confused. Any definition would be appreciated.

Sounds about ok mine is the same the OS takes up 5gb
