Maybe there is an android app that works. Will have to check
I would also like to find an app to do this. I used to have an app that done this on my old boss 9900 but can't find one for bb10

You could use an NFC sticker?
Z30 144GB
Wouldn't it use more battery to have nfc on than having wi-fi on?
The purpose of the app i'm looking for is to save on battery: I tend to forget to switch off wi-fi when I leave home or work.

I turned on wi-fi when I got the phone, and haven't turned it off yet. Your use must mean you can't do that. I only charge my phone at night. NFC will only use battery when in use, like when linked to speakers, a quick tap on a tag won't be much. Hope this helps.

There is no api to switch off wifi
But it can be turned on
Z10STL100-1/10.3.0.700
Just a question: how far away can I got from such a sticker without losing contact with him? - If I don't have a radius of at least 20m (with walls between) it's not usable.
Lol less than a centimeter
NFC would work like a switch, in this case. You tap the phones once, wifi turns on; you tap the phones once again when you leave, wifi turns off.
You could place the sticker in a door or something.
Far less battery hungry than geofencing.
This is what I mean, it's unusable for automatic switching wifi on or off when you enter or leave a room (or house) or so. It is nothing else than a manual switching. But for this I don't need an NFC sticker.
I love Locale on Android and have tried it on BB10 but so far it does not work. Hoping the 10.3 update makes it golden, or we get a native version for BB10.
Native would be best.
Sent from my beast Z30
Bump up :)
Would you know if 10.3.1 made that feature available?
Thanks!

There's an app to do this.. but only "Enable" items, not disable them.
its called "On Location Headless app". https://appworld.blackberry.com/webs...ode=CA&lang=en
You may also want to check out "Power Tools". It may or may not do what you're looking for.

Good luck
Am I missing something? I have WiFi turned on all the time. When I'm at home my Z30 uses WiFi. When I'm out of range it uses cell connection?
Why do you need an app?
BlackBerry... Now and Forever.
A geography position app would be nice. I have the same request.
I had this option on my old Sony z1. On my old Lumia 930 similar function was broken and active and deactivate randomly.

It would save the battery as if the wi-fi is turned on but not connected to any network, it would still look for network to connect even if even if this search is irrelevant. For example in Montreal, there is no free Wi-Fi in the metro or in downtown in the street.

Thanks Bash_Man. I was more interested in the disable function (i.e. To use when I leave home or the office ;) )

No problem my friend.
When I used to do that my self, I used NFC tags that I programmed to do such functions.
When I got into the car, I tagged the NFC tag and it did the following:
- Turn ON Bluetooth and connect tothe Car's Bluetooth
- Turn OFF WIFI
When I got to the office/Home, I tagged the NFC tag and it:
- Turned ON wifi and connected to Home or Work Wifi
- Turned OFF Bluetooth
perhaps the ability is available in BB10 but api not yet available. Maybe Developers have thought about such feature.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
I bought some tags myself and put one in the hall closet. When grabbing a jacket to go I see the tag at eye level and am reminded to tap -- on goes the cell radio and off goes the wifi, then on returning I see it again when putting my jacket away and tap again for the reverse. Quick and easy with no settings fiddle.

Bring back random taglines!
Yup, nfc tags are your best bet

And how would the phone know that You've left your office / home?
Hi wotj7,
From my understanding, geo-localisation works with cell towers. You would configure the app so that when the phone receives signal from certain cell towers wi-fi should be on, otherwise it should be turned off.
I had an app doing that on my Torch

After Wifi gets turned off, would you still keep the data connection on through your provider? If so the gains on battery life by turning Wifi off would be close to nil.
It's the searching / connecting to wi-fi networks ( done automatically when wi-fi is turned on) that I would want to get rid of
