Is there some way of setting up a shortcut to text a contact like on Android or Windows phone?
Right now it seems to be a several step operation:

Hit the "text messages" icon
hit compose
type the contact name
type the message
hit send

Is there a faster way?

Once you have a "conversation" running, and the texts are flying backand forth, just hit thelast text sent to you and hit reply.

For initiating the text conversation, nope, thats it.

Hmmm. Here my method.
Press Search in home screen.
Start typing "sms", then type Name of your contact, choose number of it contact.
Then you'll provide to sms screen to start texting.
Enjoy.

Add the number to quick contact in phone app.
Long press the icon.
Hit text in the right side menu.

No need to hit search on the q10. At the home screen just start typing 'txt name' and their numbers come up, select and the text app is opened at the compose screen. Away you go.
