BlackBerry needs to announce the A10 in September to ensure that the USA will have it by the holiday season. It took 2-4 months for BB10 to arrive in the states. 10.1 was delayed for 2 months on AT&T and has yet to arrive on Verizon. Based on BlackBerrys track record, any subsequent delay will result in a post holiday 2014 USA release.

They definitely need to release before the end of the year and catch the holiday season.

It needs to be out in the States before American Thanksgiving (the biggest Christmas buying time in the States).

So as the OP said, this means it needs to be launched in September if they want Americans to have the opportunity to buy it for Christmas (since the US is the only country on Earth whose carriers require a full 2 month lead time for carrier testing).

So with that thought, would it make sense for BlackBerry to release the A10 at BlackBerry Jam Asia (Sep 26 and 27)? I would personally like to see a separate event to unveil the newest BlackBerry 10 flagship and possibly a peak into mobile computing (or some other nice surprise).

The only problem with having a separate event to release the A10 is the immediate pressure for it to sell well (more so than the pressure already)

This is launching with 10.2. First, 10.2 has to go gold. Only then can the phone be submitted to carrier testing. After that, it seems like it takes several months (at least) before the American carriers approve.

We know from the roadmap that 10.2 (the sdk anyway) is set to go gold in August. That means that the A10 will probably be submitted to carrier testing in August or maybe early September. So. MAYBE a US release in October/November? There is a good chance that it could be available outside the US in October or maybe even September.

BB really has to step it up and launch this properly this time. BB is running out of opportunities to get it right. They need a phone that is a hit.

The device is already in the hands of carriers (can't speak to the US operators, but would assume as such).

I'm betting this might be a quicker launch than the last few as it is the flagship model and launching around the time a lot of people upgrade.
