For QI wireless charging, it must be a Z30 model STA100-3, which is Verizon branded and a CDMA network device.
That specific model has built in QI charging hardware, the other Z30 models do not have that hardware.
The device is sold unlocked, and you can use it on other carriers, however as the device is CDMA hardware, you will have little to no success in using it on AT&T's GMS network at it's full capacity. You may get 2G and possible 3G, but no 4G/LTE.
But, you do not have to be on Verizon to use the QI charger.

I get 4G on the AT&T network with my unlocked VZW branded Z30 in Northern VA, but haven't seen the LTE symbol come up yet.

Why is it a joke. Wireless charging works great. Its not meant to charge as fast as usb charging so if thats your nit then wireless charging isn't for you. There are plenty of good Qi chargers in the market.

I agree with MENT. I've no problem with wireless charging. If nothing else, it takes the stress off of the usb/charging port of inserting/detaching the cable. It also removes the potential of accidentally catching the cord (although that could happen with the Qi charger to some extent). I find it really convenient not to search for the "hole" to insert a cable! And since I use wifi-sharing I very rarely have to use any cable with the phone.

Agree. For $6.50 on Ebay my Z30 lays on the QI pad at work and is always 100% charged.

The mid-frame is physically different from the other Z30 models, on the STA100-3, it having the QI antenna and leads.
I believe it also has a different bolt pattern, so I'm not 100% sure the main-board is fully interchangeable.

It is interesting that Verizon presumably commissioned this extra feature for its Z30's. Although Verizon never really marketed the device, at least, no more than BB itself markets any of its devices!

Exactly my point. Verizon doesn't even sell a QI charger for the Z30. VRZ sells this nice red charger that's triangular in shape and you can rest the phone Standing up while charging. But it doesn't work for the Z30, only for the Classic. WTF?

As said previously stated by Ment, Verizon doesn't have to provide the charger, any Qi wireless charger will work. I managed to grab three of the Nokia DT910 chargers when AT&T had them on clearance for $10 each and they work GREAT with my Z30. As far as wireless charging in general, I don't know if I will ever NOT have that capability again. I think it is an excellent function to have. Check out eBay and you can find some great deals.

UPDATE: Here's one on eBay for $20, the Z30 stands upright on it and if you didn't know better, you would think it was made for the BlackBerry
