Does anybody know whether or not the ear piece on the Z30 can be replaced easily?
I've seen the part available for Q10 and Z10 but not the Z30. Anybody know where to buy it and how to replace it if it can be a DIY type of thing?

I bet there is a you tube video on replacing it that you could follow.
If there is I haven't been able to find it...I've seen the screen replacement videos though.
I had a crackling ear piece issue, thought it needed replacing, turns out it was dust or something in the earpiece, I gently hoovered/ vacuumed it and boom...fixed...that was 4 months ago...still perfect today, I used a Dyson dc34 handheld.
Not saying this is the cause of your issue but worth a shot...just remember very gently tho, like try a low setting on your hoover with less suction than you think you need as the earpieces are sensitive, then call voice mail to check...

You can sometimes get your mouth around for earpiece and suck as hard as you can to pull the metallic cone material back into form.

I just took my Z30 apart for a distorted earpiece issue. It is ridiculously easy to get the phone apart but if you are all thumbs and have no finesse I really do not recommend it. There is a YouTube video showing how to change the screen. That is what I used to take it apart. Once the screen is off you can GENTLY pry the speaker off the screen back. It is only held on with foam tape. You will wreck the foam just so you know. Once the speaker was off I used a powerful magnet to get all of the metal debris out of my speaker. I just gently tapped and dropped the speaker onto the magnet until all the metal dust was gone. To reassemble is tricky as now there is no foam holding the speaker in it's hole. If you are careful and quick like me you can reassemble without sticking the speaker back down. Maybe someone crafty has an idea on how to stick the speaker back in but I left mine. The board holds it on tight enough when assembled. Once back together I tested and no more crackle and distortion. If your speaker is really bad though it *looks* just like the Z10 replacement speaker online. I didn't split my Z10 to check but maybe I will to confirm one day. I would say 30 minutes to do this if you have any sort of electronics knowledge or if you have ever taken a smart phone apart before. I accept no liability for any damages you may incur by doing any of the above described activities to either yourself, your phone or property. You do this at your own risk and your warranty will be void by doing so. If you do not have any fine motor skills, finesse or patience this is not something you should undertake yourself. You have been warned. :) I hope this helps someone and saves someone money in the future.

thanks, Dubs, gonna do mine tonight. I have an extra z10 also, so if the magnet doesnt work I'll take that apart
I have had this problem with several of my Z30's and now my current one. Mine is caused by metal dust building up in the ear piece due to my work environment. I also remember there being a front page article on CB about this very problem written by Kevin earlier this year. Using a magnet only worked twice for me before the ear piece went completely. Would also like to know if the Z10 one is the same.

People commonly have this issue with their phones where I work. I work in a sheetmetal fabrication shop, so lots of metal dust, shavings, etc. I've personally had this issue with my 3 previous BB's...9550, 9850, Z10. My 9530 never had the earpiece issue, but with the loudspeaker. My Z30 has yet to have the issue. I was hoping since the Z30 speakers seem to have an extra layer of protection, that I would get lucky and avoid the crackling speaker.
