I accidentally found this cool feature in the hub last night. Not sure if this is already known but I haven't seen anything about it yet. I'm on 1925. Pull the top page to the right just slightly and then it allows you to keep the left column there for easy switching between accounts.
I'm pretty sure that's the " Hub peek" feature that BlackBerry first advertised with BB10, though usually they instruct using the bottom right corner (where the "Hub" icon sits) to achieve the same function. It's also available in apps built with Cascades, including CB10.
I do agree that it's a nice feature for quick switching between accounts, though I usually employ other means just out of habit.

I think that has been there since the beginning. It would be a great thing if it stayed "open" on the left side while switching between each account.

It does, or can, until you select an account. When swiping over if you swipe just enough to see the reduced icons and take your finger off the screen, it'll snap in place and let you maneuver as you like.
