Is this what you guys see in real life? I remember someone had both Z10 and Z30, and if we have more people with multiple Z or Q devices, can you do a comparison?

If this is true, Z30 camera is considerable worse than Q10 and still worse than Z10. Looks like Q10 has amazing sharpness and darkest blacks, while text is good enough to read, however text is almost disappeared in Z30.

I just got through discussing this very thing with my bbm group. I have a q10 and a 9810 and both take better photos than my new z30. Quite frankly the camera on my z30 sucks. so far its the only thing I have found that is inferior. Buts its a big deal to me.

Very nice. It should be noted that 4:3 offers the most sensor use on the Q10. It wiuld have helped if the frames were more similar. But thanks for testing; I can't argue with your conclusion.

So.... what I did was get as close to the statue as possible and still get a focus. As you can see, I had to be further away with the Z30 to get focus to lock in. And the picture quality isn't as good, IMO.

I want to add that both the rear and front cameras have the same blur/ darkness when compared to the Z10. I was told by several people that the Z10 and Z30 use the same front cameras. But what I really noticed is the frame rate is much slower on the Z30 front camera. And so much darker. Something else is going on here.

Did anyone try 3rd party android cam apps? Cab they be sideloaded to see if it helps with performance?

I don't know if Z30 suffers from same problem earlier BBs suffered when they had same lens but took worse pictures. Like 8900 took amazing pictures but 9000 sucked.

In the future try to use the same aspect ratio on both phones. 1:1 and 16:9 should be avoided, as they are not the native ratio of the sensor. I'm sure you will get different results with 4:3.

The Z30 probably has a different image processing chip. I'm pretty sure blackberry just uses the one that qualcomm includes in their SoC. Also I've noticed some Z30's take better pictures than others. Its pretty weird but maybe their quality control is not the best when it comes to cameras. The camera has never been a strong suit for BlackBerry and the new bb10 phone cameras have never been anything more than kinda good when compared to the current flagships. I'd say it's on par with a galaxy s3 or HTC one x.

Honestly, my biggest gripe with the Z30 is the camera. It takes absolutely lousy pictures compared to my iPhone 4s. I've tried tweaking it every which way, but it still doesn't compete. If it's software related, they should hurry up and patch it.

This is the one area that apple clearly has BlackBerry beat.

Third is a Canon 600D Manual mode set to 1/100sec ISO 200 Flash on



Z30 is darker, Z10 is more accurate compared to the Canon 600D

I bought a Z30 after my Z10 broke. After 1 day, I returned it and bought a Z10 from blackberry and had it overnighted to me.

The Z10 has an decent camera. The Z30, had trouble in anything but daylight. And, it tended to "expand" a lot things: especially people. By that I mean, people's faces looked more round/fatter than what they really were.

I have a Nexus 5 and Z10, and I think the cameras are pretty equal (Nexus tends to take better pictures in lower light levels)
