Hey you enterprising Z30 owners. Jealous Z10 owner here. Feel like doing a bit of testing with USB On-the-go (OTG)?

The Z30 apparently supports the feature and I'd love to know what sort of devices can be used with it. USB keys? External hard drives? Display adapters? Printers?

If you've got a Z30, a USB On-the-go adapter and some devices kicking around, feel like seeing what it can do?

    Cheers

i was wondering the same, could one hook up an external harddrive, its basically the same, the only issue i can really see is if its not a solid state drive it would draw alot of power to spin the drive

Not if the drive had a power adaptor.

A USB stick is a given otherwise it's pretty crappy USB On-the-go. Now, something like a Western Digital Passport. It's a USB hard drive. No power adapter. Would this work? They're pretty low current as far as hard drives go.

Only FAT is recognized by the Z30. NTFS and Mac file systems produce an error on my Z30. This was tested using USB power externals on 10.2.1.

Yip, hopefully since oftur (I think it was him) saw some signs of exFat we may get that in the future.

And compared to my samsung phone and windows laptop the phone connects quite abit faster (instantaneous) to my hardrive.

Does not work for me. The drive flashes the light trying to power, but can't get enough juice. Just keeps flashing instead of going solid.

    You can plug :
    - keyboard
    - mouse
    - USB hub
    - USB mass storage key
    - USB external hard disk

Now, developers can add support for other devices. I'm working on this feature.

I just tried a USB WD Passport drive. It looks like there was enough power to drive it. The blue light on the drive came on but I got an error message from my Z30 that it did not have the driver to support it. I will format the drive to FATS and see if that works.

Tried again with drive reformatted to FAT32 but Z30 still comes back with no driver error.

You phone isn't going to power any drive. It will need it's own power source.

I was able to get a 1TB powered external USB drive connected that was formatted to FAT32. I could read/write files to it without problems.

The Z30 presently will only read a FAT32 formatted drive. And to the contrary, it does provide enough power to run some external hard drives, it all depends on the enclosure.

And don't forget to add USB Gamepads to that list. Check out my video.
