Brokerage fees. Depending on where you buy your shares, you usually have to pay a higher fee for buying on a "foreign" exchange.

Buy in your local currency. BB and BBRY are basically the same price (factoring in the interbank USDCAD rate), so there's no real difference, but if you're asking this question you'll be someone who is paying a crappy retail rate for FX, and that is where you will lose your money.

Eg. If you're holding CAD, you lose converting to USD, your BBRY investment does as well as BB would have, and then you lose again when you sell BBRY and convert the resulting USD back to CAD.

The FX conversions will result in additional fees, so avoid them if you can.

If you're not holding USD or CAD it makes less difference...

The advantage goes to BBRY (US exchange) simply because of the availability of free real time quotes (and software) and pre market and after market trading.

Currency risk. Liquidity risk. Lower volume on Toronto could mean wider spreads. Basically if that sounds like gibberish just buy on the nasdaq
