I have had a Z30 for just over a month now and it appears the charger that came with it doesn't work anymore. I can still charge it if I plug the oem cord to a computer. Has this happened to anyone and if I phone BlackBerry would they replace it for free?

I don't know if BlackBerry would replace but I use any charger that fits to charge mine. I actually use my PB charger. You can also by the charging cable and little power cubes for like 3.95 on amazon. I have several spares so i can travel with one and another for work.

I don't think accessories are covered by the warranty, just call them to find out.

If it doesn't, you can get any smartphone charger with micro USB plug. Just make sure that its output does not exceed 850 mA.

Care to elaborate? The official BlackBerry premium car charger is rated at 1.8A. With that in mind I also use the Playbook style charger which is also 1.8A. Did this with my Z10 for a year, no issues, and am now using them on my Z30's.

I use the yellow tip BlackBerry PlayBook 2A charger on my Z10 and now on my Z30. No issues as well. Both PlayBook chargers are listed as premium and compatible chargers on BlackBerry's website.

I've used a charger that is 2.4A rated without issues as well.

    Just charges faster!

Yes it's a BlackBerry. If you have something bad to say... speak to Easton!

If you check the Safety document for your phone or tablet you will see the approved charger part numbers. Both Z30 and Playbook approved chargers provide output current at around 0.3 times of the battery capacity. So your phone's or tablet's battery will be fully charged after 3+ hours.

As a guideline, as long as you are using a good Li-Ion charger, you can use a charger that provides up to 0.8 times the battery capacity. As long as the battery is not overheating during charger then it is fine. Your battery will reach the full capacity faster. Your Playbook charger is 1.8A therefore to Z30 battery it is 0.63 times its capacity. Still pretty safe.

However, charging at higher current puts stress to the battery therefore its service life span will be less.

By using the approved charger at 0.3C the battery life is expected to reach more than 1000 cycles. If for example your Z30 is being charged every night then it will last about 3+ years before its capacity drops significantly.

Picture taken of the verizon z30 oem charger plug with the z30 itself....output is 5v=850. More power = faster charge, and evidently at a low risk per the user responses in this thread. That is good to know as well.
