    Hi all, I just brought my brand new Z30 home and was going through the setup phase (Wifi, downloading the apps I need, etc) when I noticed the "new phone smell". When I smell the screen or the back of the phone it almost smells like a burning rubber or just rubber so to speak.

    Is this normal? Is it because of the build materials and the fact it is warm downloading all the apps?

    Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

    I searched it online and see many experienced the same smell with their PB tablets so it just may be the build materials and the fact it is brand new but do wish to confirm.

    Mine never smelled like burning rubber even when it was brand-new. Anyway, keep us posted on how it turns out. BTW, are you using the charger that came with it to charge it, or are you using a PlayBook charger?

    I literally just got it home so it has not been charged yet.

    I believe the smell is from the material on the back of phone. That rubber like kevlar feeling material.

    I just took the back off the phone and can confirm the smell is from the material on the back plate. The inside of the phone doesn't smell like that but when I remove the back cover the material on the outside of it does have a distinct smell. 98% sure it is back plate material and nothing to be concerned of.

    The inside of my Z10 still smells like "new electronics" even after 1 year of owning it... could be because I only ever removed the back cover like 5 times at most
