For a direct answer the reason is because the software is not reading your remaining battery percentage accurately. What OS are you on? Any problems charging to 100%?

I've run both my Z30 and Passport down to 1% prior to placing on the charger so not necessarily normal although others have reported this.

I had an old Z30 that would only charge to 98% and while the device was on the charger at 98% I used the volume up and down keys to reboot the device (hold both until you see the BlackBerry logo then release, ignore the screen shot) and it then went from 98% to 100%. This was after months of having it and I finally decided I'd try something lol.

I have no problem charging to 100 and the software that I'm on is 10.3.1.2708

You have restarted (see below)

Does this happen all of the time or when using certain apps? What kind of headless apps might you be running? But as you mention, it charges UP fine? What app are you using that shows the 8% when it turns off?


Try a restart:

Press and HOLD both Vol Up/Down buttons. Keep holding while the screen goes fully black (ignore the screenshot), keep holding through the Black/White logo and when the Colored Logo shows up, release those buttons.

If you have a Z10: If you have the STL100-1 variant the volume button reset method doesn't work. In that case, Press and HOLD the Power On Button until you see the LOGO as above

I've avoided the screenshot before by holding one volume button down before the other but don't know if it affects the process.. My Z30 has had many funny issues with the 10.3.1 release OS

I'm having the same problem again and I've done a wipe of the os and reloaded the os through link and I'm on 10.3.2 and having this problem

Have you run Device Monitor? Is shows both a graph and data on what is using the battery. Also, at the bottom, you can tap the CPU tab and also see what is running and using the CPU (processor of the phone).

But what types of apps do you run? Lots of browsing or games? Video? Streaming?

Here's mine where I forgot to throw it on the wireless (qi) charger last night. So about 24 hours.... I still don't know why System runs that high.

How long does the battery last? If you also have bad battery performance consider getting s new battery, unexpected battery drops are an indication that the battery is bad.

The phone dies now at 5% and battery doesn't stay so long

mine intially died at 25%..

i tried all the solutions i could find... for z30 stl002... now it dies at about 40%!!! ARGH..
battery does last a full day though.. so not sure if it's calibration.. or bad battery.. started using the phone about a month+ back.. on the latest ota update 10.3.2... 2474? yes bought brand new in sealed box.. however it was made over 2 years ago..

Try going into device monitor and force closing any Android apps that might be running in the background. I've found that several apps like Skype, Ebay, and Facebook apps run in the background even when you've closed them, and they use a fair bit of battery power.
