I have quite a collection of music on my BB Z30, and I play them at bedtime, so having auto on/off feature is handy to fall asleep without worrying of draining battery through the night.
Why did BB remove this feature that distinguish it from other devices ?

    The Auto-On/Off isn't available on BlackBerry 10.
Technically, it wasn't removed because it was never there in the first place for this platform, so...

I don't think your Z30, other BlackBerry 10 devices, or the default music player has such feature. Are you talking about a third-party app?

I also miss that feature from earlier BB OS's. But as mentioned, it never existed in BB10.

BBOS never had a on/off feature. It was just a sleep mode - not much different than bedside mode.

Not quite true conite. I was using the auto shutoff feature of BBOS all the time on my Curve. Would schedule the phone to turn off @11pm and turn back on @6am everyday. The phone would physically turn off and back on. Worked like a charm. Baffles me why after 2 years it's not a feature of BlackBerry 10.

It does not turn off. It sleeps.

Probably because it isn't that important. I don't even use Bedside Mode anymore!

That may be true but it was a VERY DEEP SLEEP. Used very little power. What was nice, at least from my standpoint - I did not have to remember to put it into beside mode or turn off its NOISY notices at night. The other half did not have to complain about beeps and chirps in the middle of the night.

At 11pm it was OFF for the night (using minimal power) and at 6am it was awake. And if I set and Alarm it would wake up and wake me. Again, total automation. It was not an antiquated feature but an advanced feature. No user interaction was needed after you set it up.

Set up meeting mode and have your phone go silent on a daily schedule.

That's a great idea. I never thought about using it that way.
