Interesting, I like the rounded bottom that gives it a distinctive BlackBerry look, and differentiates it from other slab phones.

Also... Another important thing to complete my concept work.... What colour should the z5 packaging be? (z10 is blue/purple..... Q5 is red q10 is pink/purple)

I decided to go with a grey colour for the Z5 'Packaging'...

This one below was pretty damn funny though! I would call it the Galaxy Mega QWERTY! Actually, that might be the BB Q15 I've been looking for!

i like your designs a lot but the z5 looks like a htc desire x or wildfire and the bottom of the A10 screams nexus/samsung galaxy s3/4. i dont mean to nitpick and i know these are based off that one guys eye witness of a dev A10 but i hope the final designs are more blackberryish so people cant say "oh you ripped this design or oh thats an old htc get a new one blah blah"

are you planning to do a horizontal slider concept? i think the bb10 torch would be too top heavy to hold comfortably in the hands with a long screen as you type on the bottom 1/4

There is ONE point that is immediately apparent from a "Function" perspective that has bothered me - and I have this with legacy BBs, including my current Torch98000 as well - is the rounded bottom: YOU CANNOT STAND THE PHONE UP (like you can with an iP, possibly even other devices incl. a Z10).

Not only does the rounded bottom that make it less functional from THAT perspective, withits flat top it also doesn't look nearly as balanced or architecturally stable and therefore not as pleasing to the eye.

While that might not "seem" important right now, let me suggest that the (360�) panorama-photo app that exists for the iP WILL be lost - not to mention a whole host of 'other' uses we don't know about or are aware of just yet - to a device that can't stand up on its own.
And - NO! - I don't want to be forced to buy extra gardgets or specific cases to make up for a simple design shortcoming; that's just more Apple iP4 antenna fix-thinking.

Now, you have a flat top. IF anything, why not reverse the two? Flat bottom and curved top - if you must have a rounded edge at all.

THAT wouldn't just FUNCTION properly in a usability sense, it would also LOOK right.

"Form FOLLOWING Function" is what separates the "visual" (only) designer from a TRUE Industrial Designer.

Just my 2 cents worth from our penniless country - thanks for considering "my" pov.

Why 1080p? Your eye cannot see the difference between 720 and 1080 on a 5 inch phone.

Have you held a QWERTY device before? Even the Bold 9900 with it's small 2.8 inch screen was bottom heavy where the keyboard is. The screens today are especially lighter.

Yes, but this would still be too top-heavy. Hold a Z10 at the very end, and you can feel how unbalanced it is... with the added keyboard, your hands would be down farther - and it would make it even more unbalanced. If it were perfectly fine, then BB would have released one already - to capture those who want both the full screen and physical keyboards. They didn't because it won't feel right holding while typing.

First, I disagree with your outright sentiment on the principle if the "Z10+hard Keyboard" idea.
Second; you contradict and/or confuse your statement by saying " ... would not be very uncomfortable ... "

... so here goes:
There are MANY ways of balancing out the weight of the device. The Torch 9800 & 9810 (we have 1 of each) are VERY well balanced, and getting it right in a new BB10model shouldn't be overly difficult to do.
Also, there are many ways of compensating as a user to a slight device balance issue.

Finally, before we preemptively second-guess & dump all over the concept or even idea of a full-Z-screen+hard-keyboard model, let's give the device designers and engineers a chance to WOW us. They may get it more perfect than even I hope for or expect.

Either way, as long as they hit the mark on quality & specs, I'll take 2 full-(Z10)-size sliders ... just don't take forever to make'em, BBRY!!!

THEN decide whether it's not perfect enough for you ... or whether it is.

Again, DISAGREE ... sorry. That thinking is like Steve Jobs' logic & claim that no-one would NEVER buy a tablet smaller than 10" ...

Maybe they haven't made one YET because they needed to hit the market with other BIG/high profile & first sellers (Z10 & Q10 & Q5 - maybe a Z5 too ??) and profit-makers BEFORE committing to a more engineering and R&D-intensive device.

OR, maybe they're working on it "right now."

From the people I personally KNOW who work at RIN-BBRY, I CAN confirm that they honestly believe/d the swipe-up all-touch keyboard would totally replace the need & desire for a physical keyboard on the large-screen devices. A full-size screen WITH hard keyboard wasn't on the radar 6-10 months ago; maybe it is now - but no one's talking (often a good sign that something's in the works).

Fact is, "we don't 'officially' know" what else is either at play or going on ... UNLESS, of course, YOU KNOW.

As to your "unbalanced" and "doesn't feel right" position, that might be accurate IF you had held an actual device (hey, who knows, "maybe you have" ... ???).
Exactly the same thing was predicted for the BB legacy device that later became the Torch (9800/10) ... and THAT unit is perfectly balanced.
Let's WAIT AND SEE ...
