I was playing tennis today in the east end of toronto today when something great happened: I saw and held and used a prototype BlackBerry Astro/A10.

I was playing against a guy that works at Blackberry in waterloo. . I only found out half way through the match of this fact and once I found out, I was all over him for information.

I asked him about the playbook update, Astro and the possibility of a new tablet.

He said that there is not a new tablet being tested.

He said that BlackBerry has a BB10 version ready to be deployed but that the executives are unsure if they should go ahead with it eventhough, in his words: "they promised they would so you think they would go ahead with it".

THEN HE BLEW MY MIND and pulled out a A10 prototype!

Looks: looks like a samsung S4. Not as square looking as the Z10; more curvy. It also had the same backing plate as the Q10.

    OS: running 10.2

Hardware: I accessed the setting/about page and it has 2GB of ram and was using 800MB with no apps open.

    10.2 feature noticed: Backup.

There was a new menu in the settings menu: Backup. I went into this submenu and it looks like you can initiate a backup of your phone to a paired computer wirelessly. Pretty cool.

And that's all I got. I wasn't expecting to run into a blackberry developer today not to mention see and hold and use a prototype phablet blackberry.

Some will saw no pic bla bla bla.

I actually snuck up on him and took a pic of the phone with my Q10 and he freaked out and insisted I delete it so I did.

    Astro Exists!

Well it just seems odd how you claim that you have seen it but yet don't know what it was called.

It's not like he spelled it out to me.

And he never referred to it as Aristo, always A10.

Yes, 2GB confirmed but you never know, they could put a 4 in there. Although it seems like it used the 2GB pretty effectively.

Using 800mb with no apps opened? I'm not surprised they're on the fence with releasing BB10 for the PlayBook..

Edit: I sort of realised that 800mb with no apps opened is sort of the norm *facepalm*

No, just skeptical. You don't expect to post something about this without anyone being skeptical.

I'm not sure what I'm missing in terms of finer details. I went through ever settings page I could and I didn't see anything too much different in terms of specs other than running 10.2. He also said that 10.2 included the android runtime update. Maybe that's the big detail that I'm missing but I hate all of the android ports so it doesn't really twist my tittie.

    Astro>aristo.

Hmm cool story. They do have multiple prototypes in testing period.Considering the screen will be bigger probably testing out power consumption additionally the runtime not at gold standard so plenty testing. This aimed for them big phone lovers and mostly droid crowd.

To me its just a bigger phone.Quadcore or whatever wont improve the phone. You will still be reliant on data for apps specs are not magically gonna make the phone faster and better.Unless this thing opens up 10+ apps runs somekind of photo shop makes sandwiches same **** different look.Oh well diversiify the portfolio go BB.

BTW, the one I saw was not a protype. Finished product in the final housing. Those who are using one are supposed to use the "bat suit" rubber bumper to hide the Blackberry logo.
