I spilled coffee on my beautiful Z30 last night and it's been "drying out" in rice since then. I'm about to switch it on and see if it's still got any life left in it. Please keep your fingers crossed for me.

    Ugh. Sinking feeling.

As soon as I plugged it in the red notification light blinked and then the BlackBerry white logo came on in the middle of the screen. I figured that would be a good sign except it just keeps cycling through that over and over again. I tried a hard reset with the volume buttons and it doesn't seem to do anything.

It's been cycling for about five minutes.

    Any ideas?

Hmm keep it drying a bit longer. Then attempt to reflash with an autoloader.

Hopefully it didn't fry the flash memory

Sorry to hear. I'm a z30 owner too
Funny thing, my wife just got q10... she had coffee mug in her car cup holder. she thought she was putting her phone in the unoccupied cup holder and placed it in the mug instead. Needless to say, phone died.

How do you perform a hard reset with the volume buttons? I don't know that trick. Is this like a 'battery pull '?

You should take it to a cell phone repair shop and have the drying treatment done. I crapped out my limited edition Z10 by dropping it in water. I put it on rice for 4 days before using it again, but after a couple of weeks, the phone started randomly rebooting and I took it into a cell phone repair shop to have them dry it properly.

Unfortunately for me, the phone crapped out again a couple of months after the drying treatment and I took it back for them to see what happened. They couldn't figure out what's wrong and so I just got a Z30 (the LE z10 works, but no one knows when it'll die again).

Moral of the story: liquids and phones don't mix and bring it into shop for proper drying treatment asap.

To perform a hard reset with volume rockers you hold in the up and down volume volume rockers together and don't let go until your phone blacks out and begins to reboot.

Also, you may want to put a new battery.

If liquid did short cut the battery, it will never work.

You must use white rice and it must stay there for at least 3 days .

Just get desiccant crystals. Much safer and cleaner than rice. But yes. Leave it in there longer.

    Too bad.

My sister (aged 36) bought a new mini hamster for her son. After they came home, she wanted to pet the new family member while having a cup of coffee from an overly sized cup. Well ... the hamster ended up swimming in the coffee! No wonder the hamster was awake all night ;-)

I owned a Sony xperia z1 and I was thrown in the swimming pool by my mates on holidays.. not a problem with the phone as it has built in waterproof system . Decided to test it taking pictures of fish under water again no issues.

Wish my new z30 was the same.

I work IT.. We had a z10 someone dropped into the toilet. I tossed it into a return for repair box. I forgot about needing to send it to Logistics for repair. 2 months later I noticed it was in the box. Turned it on and the darn thing went live. I plugged into a charger for a week and gave it to a new bench tech. Now 2 months later darn thing still working flawless. Guess it boils down to loose some win some. Good luck but just a few days way not enough if it was soaked. Hope you like your coffee black with no cream or sugar... lol

My question is was the coffee quite hot? If so you may have fried thw battery or one of the chips.
