Correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't the proposed specs for the Z3 nearly identical to the Playbook?
    speed 1.2ghz, memory 1.5g, resolution <720p, etc?

If so, and it is running 10.2.1.xxx (presumably reasonably well), what is stopping them from updating our Playbooks?

I know my 64g is running with 1g ram, but surely they could tweak it some more to get it working...

    doesn't the 3G version have 1.5g?

    fingers crossed!!!

Remember that the chipset is also different
It isn't solely the RAM on the PlayBook, it's also the chipset as some have said around here

The LTE and 3G PlayBooks have a faster processor, 1.5Ghz instead of 1Ghz.
All PlayBooks have 1Gb of RAM.

The PB, Dev Alpha A and Dev Alpha B/STL100-1 are all OMAP, but BB10 doesn't seem to consistently work on the Dev A (the lower-clocked OMAP devices) after 10.1, so the PB wouldn't work either.

Wishful thinking. I'm all for it, but the PlayBook is dead.

If they made it 7" it is possible as replacement for PlayBook... and by the way, what in a world they only made the internal storage 8GB?

Less internal storage is the easiest cut to do, they did the same thing with the Q5.

According to GSM, it has 1.5 GB RAM. Internal storage is irrelevant, it has a microSD. I presume you will be able to install apps onto that? If not, then yes, internal storage will become an issue for some.

Lol @ the RAM requirements. I thought BB10 needed 2GB RAM remember? Its all a load of nonsense. Now people saying, no its the chipset. LOL.

If BlackBerry will apply the same policy as it is having right now with current BB10 devices, definitely, there is no way to save or transfer your downloaded apps and games to SD card... and 8GB is way too low for current apps and games... not to mention that BB10 OS will even use portion of that 8GB... it is relevant...

    BlackBerry Z3 vs. BlackBerry 4G LTE PlayBook - GSMArena.com
Didn't GSM also say that the resolution would be less than on the Z30? I'd question everything they have to say, until we get a solid, official spec sheet.

Their list looks like a lot of guess-work, and "Well, this is what we expect it will have".
    -----------------------------------------

This reminds me: does anyone have a comparison photo of a Z30 next to a Playbook? A visual screen size comparison?

If the Z3 winds up cheap enough on eBay I can see it not replacing my Q5 for texting and e-mail, but being a tethered companion for web browsing and PDF reading and whatnot, like my Playbook, if the screen is big enough.

I've tried out the new Dell Windows tablet. I still use my PlayBook, but it's not half-bad and at $299 Canadian for 32gb it's on the more affordable side of the tablets available. Memory can be expanded with a micro SD card.

Problem is I am not a huge fan of the Windows 8 OS. I get seizures when I see those live tiles...

yeap the Z3 will use a 1.5GB RAM instead of just 1GB. BB10 won't work properly on a 1GB RAM (even though there is a CB member here has a 1GB RAM Q10) hence the Z3 will be using the 1.5GB RAM which puts it inline with Lumia 620/625, the S4 mini, the S3 (if that phone is still to be counted) and the mini HTC-1.

Source for the 1.5GB RAM? And preferably one we haven't seen before?

It's not only about processor speeds but rather architecture and GPU. The PlayBook runs either an omap 4430 with a powervr sgx540 which is the base model in the omap 4 family or the S3 Snapdragon that is not the most powerful processor on the block. The PlayBook and the dev alpha a may have the same ram but the processor is a much newer omap 4460 which has a more powerful GPU as well as significant architectural changes that make it a much more capable chip than the 4430 or S3. It would be nice but realistically it won't happen.

Last I checked, there is no such thing as a Snapdragon-based PlayBook. 4430 for WiFi, 4460 for LTE/Dev A, 4470 for Dev B/STL100-1.
