Here is info on the processor that shows up:

    http://system-on-a-chip.findthebest....on-400-MSM8230

Also 1.5 GB of RAM. Should be a good device. In fact this processor and GPU may be quicker than the Z10.

Z10 is 2 gb... and I think 1.5 gb is good for a mid range phone as jakarta was supposed to be a mid range phone

I don't think we will see any leaks before release, unless someone doesn't mind loosing their job and a possible lawsuit due to breaking a non confidential agreement.

For less than 200$, that's not too bad. Don't expect high end stuff at that price point . Still, the BB10 experience on a brand new phone at that price is kind of cool.

Nah, mate...I'm not complaining about the quality. I'm complaining about the inconvenience being put on developers.

They have to go an modify their apps to work with the new resolution now.

Whereas if it had been 720p, any Z30 app would look fine (sans the gaming performance) on it.

    Mmm...CB10! Just the tip though...

That must not be taken as gospel. The Motorola Moto G uses this same chipset and has a 720p screen.

Perhaps the Jakarta should be released with a 720p screen but slightly smaller screen size, say 4.5"?

The Moto G uses a different chipset. It uses a Snapdragon 400, 8226
The Jakarta is using a Snapdragon S4, 8230.
Qualcom's website specifically mentions qHD resolution for the MSM8230.

Actually no they don't. Since SDK 10.1 an API call makes the resolution agnostic. 10.2 SDK also adds another. I stumbled across this after a long winded post arguing about the real resolution os the Z10 & Z30 being the same proof was the lower pixel count on the latter due to the screen size using the same resolution. But that's another conversation suffice to say I found the details right in a developer video from the last JAM sessions hosted by BlackBerry YouTube channel

So resolution / scaling for apps is already hardware independent, if I get that right. I guess qHD to 720p will scale nicely, then. 16:9

iPhone for me? Scr... ahem Q that! (posted from the latter)

Show me the actual documentation and I'll believe that.

If it has to scale everything on the fly, then the performance and battery life of the device would be impacted, not to mention the screen will probably look fuzzy on the 99.9% of apps that were originally designed with 720p bitmapped elements.

What I recall reading at one time was that there were variants of the SoC in question that actually are capable of 720p, though this is not necessarily obvious from Qualcomm's website.

For example, the MSM8230AB variant apparently supports 720p, as demonstrated in its usage in the Lumia 1320:

    Nokia Lumia 1320 - Specifications
Nokia Lumia 1320 3G (Nokia Batman) Detailed Specs | Technical Datasheet | PDAdb.net

It is often the case that chip vendors do not publish datasheets for variations of their chips that are provided solely as OEM products, or to certain OEMs.

    We shall see!

Unfortunately the supposed Geekbench result for the Jakarta does not show the MSM8230AB specifically, nor does it show the associated 1.7Ghz clock speed. The specs are a dead ringer for the MSM8230. Don't forget, the MSM8230AB is significantly faster (faster memory interface, clock speed, etc) than the vanilla version. If it were the SOC in use, you'd also expect the geek bench results to be better as well.

Also of interesting note, the MSM8230AB does not support CDMA, which would be severely limiting the potential market for the device in Indonesia.

Speculation is such fun...I'm still waiting on an update to Momentics to shed some more light on this.

Edit: Searching around for the SOC a bit more, and came across the old Kopina benchmarks. Same chip, same RAM, similar performance (relative since the old benchmark was geek bench 2) which makes this even more interesting. Could be building the Jakarta based on parts BB sourced for old, now cancelled devices.
