I currently own a Q10, but I am recommending a Z10 to my mother since she does not like the small screen of my phone. And I always wanted to try a Z10 myself actually.
Z30 is a too big and the non-removable battery is a huge turn off for me.
The only thing that puts me off from the Z10 is the battery life that every phone reviewer seems to have problems with. However all the reviews I have read are pretty old by now and I was wondering whether the battery life is better with the newest official release (10.2.1).
Also, is there any 3rd party battery for the Z10 that is the same physical size as the OEM, but with higher capacity that you recommend?
Really depends on the use. I am a heavy user and was getting about 8 hours on heavy use. Added a battery bundle and fixed issue. Really the BlackBerry car charger is all I really needed
Not really. It depends on usage and the comparison point. You say your mom so I'm thinking she now has a dumb phone which lasts for days. Keep that in mind.
The Z10 will get most users through the day. But not all.
Mine does okay. I have four email addresses set to push and Facebook and use them all often. I read the news every morning with Feedminder, browse the web throughout the day and make calls. I get between 10-12 hours out of a battery. Yes, there are days I get less, but 8 is easy. I have three batteries just incase though since I travel internationally and you never know when you will find an outlet sometimes.
Yesterday I went to an airshow with my wife to do photography. I used my phone while waiting for it to begin. I was reading forums online, and read the news as well as used Facebook. We arrived 3 hours before the show started. I continued using the phone during lulls in the show. My wife wasn't using her phone other than the occasional Facebook post. She has an S4. At the end of the day, hers battery was at 7 percent and mine was at 49 percent. I had carried an extra battery just in case, but didn't need it.

Man.....this is so subjective I would hedge and say the battery life is "okaaay" i am a fair to moderate user 4 email accounts, wireless on ALL the time and on 4G , I have NO games installed, and do not surf much as I have Internet at home and work and I get 12-14+hrs easily this has dropped a little to maybe 10-12hrs as I have just started to use a blue tooth earpiece for driving with.
I also have a charger in my car and at work, haven't needed to get a spare battery.
I have phone fully charged at 8:00 and my phone can run up to 13:00 so as max 5 hours. Where ever I go I take charger or USB cable with me, USB car charger is very slow (VW Golf) and it only maintain my battery level
Each day my phone shuts down at least one time due to the battery.
The Z10 drain battery even if you don't using it at least 5% per hour (Q5 losing less than 2%/hour)
Really depends. I am a heavy user, several hundred emails a day, play some games, don't do a ton of surfing but I do read some news on it, also Twitter and Facebook always running.
I unplug it around 6am and by around 9:30 I'm usually down to around 75%. Quick recharge at my desk and it's unplugged from around noon to 9 or 10pm and it lasts just fine. Still usually have around 30% by 10pm.
Lasts about 10 hours for me, I have several email accounts and use it a fair bit at work. I make use of a few battery saving techniques, keeping the screen brightness about 1/2 ( which I find to be plenty bright ). Also disable the radios that I'm not using ( blue tooth when I'm not using my headset, NFC , flip over to H+ when speed isn't an issue ).
I pull my Z10 off the charger about 5 AM every morning and don't put it back on the charger until around 8 PM on average. I don't spend much time web surfing. Don't play games or watch videos. 5 phone calls on average probably not more than a few minutes each. Emails texts and BBM are must of my usage. Always have Bluetooth, wifi and LTE On but don't have access to wifi at work. I have an extra battery that I rarely use.
