I've been looking online and is it true that you can get an unlocked blackberry z10 white (in north america) and it can be used on tmobile but only access EDGE? Does this mean you can not access data?

Edge still means data, just "2G"

Edge is simply slow 2G data. So you do get data.

You will most definitely be losing because T-Mobile is already rolling out LTE sooo I would suggest ordered the parts and taking the risk

Go with Rogers' white zed as I have for T-Mobile. LTE is fast. Black or white doesn't make a difference as long as you go with spec stl100-3 zeds.

If you are wanting the white Z10 because of the "sexier" look, you can always get a black one and just get a white d brand for it...looks good, a lot better than having 2G, haha.

It's funny because you want to fine a white -3 in the U.S. for under $400. It was meant as sarcasm because it'll be tough to find. That's all...

That would work but you'd probably need to be in Canada to purchase the phone out right and to guarantee its a 100-3 model.

I would reconsider if I was you...

Unfortunately, the white Z10, while available in STL100-3, does not come in the specific 21LW model that you need to have optimal usage for T-Mobile.

Using a 91LW on T-Mobile is something I have consistently cautioned against on these forums despite doubters. It should be no secret that If the big carriers don't have LTE everywhere, then Tmo is not even close. The result is you fall back to HSPA(+), which is fine if you have the bands, but the 91LW is missing the 1700 UMTS band which Tmo uses for most of their HSPA(+). If that's missing, you will only get 3G where Tmo has refarmed to the 1900 band, and now that they are selling their own iPhone, I'm not sure how much of a priority continuing refarming is for them.

So the end result is you will be seeing EDGE a lot more than you want to. Maybe even all the time for a long time. My advice? Don't be superficial. Color is color. It certainly isn't worth EDGE on a 2013 smartphone.

Did you even read what I wrote? You must live in a refarmed area but it is still not advisable for Tmo users to use unlocked Rogers devices as those will work best with AT&T.

I honestly do not know why every time I bring this up to people I get push-back. This is not opinion. This is fact. If you don't believe me, check the band specifications for Rogers devices and the TWO different versions of STL100-3.

Rogers, Fido, Telus, Bell, AT&T sell the 91LW.

Wind, Mobilicity, Videotron, and T-Mobile USA sell the 21LW.

Using the wrong LW for your carrier will be giving you 66% give/take of the high speed experience. Is that worth the color to you?

I am one of those who want a white Z10 that works on TMobile.
So pls send me your pix of the white cover etc. you got -- although I'd really like the whole case with white keyboard!
    Thanks

I really appreciate the info from STV (and someone else I found on Amazon) about which model is needed -- the STL100-5 -- to get full reception options on T-Mobile.
I agree color should not trump high speed reception throughout T-Mobile territory. But it is very irksome to have to pay $600 and not even be able to have the option of white which is available on Verizon and Rogers -- so why didn't T-Mobile get some white? Or did Verizon and Rogers do deals to get exclusive access to white in the US and Canada?
Another question -- when I go to Alaska, my T-Mobile service roams to AT&T. So will a T-Mobile Z10 be able to access 4G and/or 3G where provided by AT&T in Anchorage?

This just isn't true. I have a white Rogers Z10 91LW and I get HSPA in areas where my GF's Rogers 9790 only gets EDGE. I know the 9790 doesn't have the 1700 band. There was a thread showing in the documentation that the 91LW does have the 1700 band. The thinking is that the band is simply disabled when the phone is locked to the carriers.

1700 band on 91LW is for LTE, not for UMTS plus LTE as it is on 21LW.

Your phone is picking up refarmed 1900MHZ spectrum. As to why she gets EDGE, well I'd need to know more specifics as that could he several different situations.

Believe me, everything is better if you stick to your model and variant number.

For Tmo US that is STL 3 and model ending in 21LW. For Q10 it is 5 tho I believe.

If you decide to get white anyway or otherwise use a 91LW the experience may vary but I compare it to a full screen movie. Enjoy your 66%.

Go Widescreen. Go 21LW. Same concept.

I know, I know. Screw me. I don't know what I'm talking about. I hope for your sake you only need coverage in refarmed areas.
