That's the difference between perceived value and actual value. A 2 generations old iPhone 4s new price is double that of a Z10 in the UK right now, and the Z10 is arguably a far better phone.

That's exactly right. The value in it comes from the brand. A brand that people wait all day outside the store for will hold it's value. Many brands don't hold their value like an Apple product does.

Apple products have great resale value as well as residual value if you are giving it away. My friends and family always act like I'm giving them a new device when I give them my old iPhone or iPad. I doubt there would be as much anticipation if I were giving them a Blackberry.

Most people are able to get more from their old iPhone than the upgrade price of a new iPhone every two years. There's some significant value there.

I �m happy with the price drop, since I was able to buy one after that. At T-Mobile Hungary I paid a bit more than $200 for my Z10 in a prepaid bundle.
I switched from iPhone 4s because I could not get used to the new ios 7 which is disgusting for me.

In Canada the price for the Z10 goes anywhere from $350 to $650 off contract depending on the carrier. Not much of a deal up here.

People and treating consumer electronics like 'investments'. It's not a car or a house... it probably costs more in labor-hours spent posting it, responding to prospective buyers, worrying about it, packaging it, shipping it, dealing with possible scams, etc. than what you're going to get for any device.

Just enjoy it while it meets your needs, then dispose of it properly or give it away.

They are nearer 130 to 140 pounds used on eBay in the UK which is too close to the 160 PAYG price from Carphone Warehouse ... brand new and with warranty.

If anything this has proven buying a BBRY device out of the gate is a bad strategy. Unless you're updating from a feature phone that just died, chances are you can wait a few months for a deal. In the case of BBRY, being an early adopter is quite expensive... & doesn't fit the millionaire next door ethos.

Hopefully BB10 is around longer than webOS was. If we share the same fate I think windows phone will get a lot more users in a year and a half when our contracts start coming up for renewal.

There are great bargains to be had looking beyond the brand ... any one of the Moto G, Lumia 520, Z10 are brilliant value at the moment in the UK. They are literally hundreds of pounds cheaper off contract than the high value brand phones you mention without significant compromises on functionality. I think more people are waking up to this fact ... when you're paying more than the price of a full blown laptop just to play candy crush something's not right !

If you want to buy one off contract check kijiji or craigslist they are going for about a 100, I know two of my friends who wanted to try bb10 from their android devices bought em like that, paid around a 100 each.

If you look you can find a similar deal, dont pay the 650 plus tax not worth it.

I traded back by iPhone 4 to ATT for $118 and got the Z10 on sale for $199. The iPhone had slowed to a crawl with iOs7, so it wasn't of use to me any more.
Pretty happy now, but I'll be happier when the android apps work a little better or developers start to open up to BB. I use the Snap app, which is great, but I'd really like certain apps to always work. Now, it can be hit or miss, especially with apps that need heavy network access (Streaming stuff like HBO Go). January will tell the tale. Either BB accesses the full Google Play and it suddenly becomes popular again or we muddle along. Hope the first!

I've checked eBay, amazon and car phone warehouse. Car phone has them at well over 200, eBay buy it now 180 and amazon 250 GBP. Not sure where some of you are seeing these deals in the UK . In Dubai they are are going for 270 USD. IF anyone knows of a better deal in the UK or Middle East please share specifics.

In my opinion, all phones are over priced. However, every device is purchased for preference. Don't follow the crowd. Get the device that's right for you. First think about the reasons you need it. If you want to be trendy, iPhone is tour gadget. If you want to have the coolest toy with the coolest games and things that will keep you busy endlessly, Android is the one. If you must stay tethered to Windows, you know what you need. If you need to take care of things and communicate with people so that you can get back to your life? Well BlackBerry is what you want. It's not the trendy persons gadget or the coolest toy. It's a BlackBerry!

I know! I sold my wife's iPhone 4 for $.01 less than I bought her Z10 for on eBay 2 months ago. Talk about fools; who the heck is paying that much money for an iPhone4? People are so dumb. I felt like a crook for selling the iPhone to them for so much, but if that is what they want, a sub par old phone, why not (It's not even 4G - LOL). What a bunch of brainwashed morons.
