    hey guys

im not sure if anyone has tested this before or if someone will test it out for comparison purposes.

the other day i wanted to unload 400+ pictures and 5-8 short video clips off my microSD card to my pc. so i connected the usb cable and transferred them to my pc.

now im not sure what "class" speed my 32gig sd card is exactly but it was averaging 1.5-2mbps which i found to be extremely slow.

not sure if its the phone or sd card that is slow in transfer speeds? was expecting to get something close to what USB2 can provide...

can someone test that out for me? transfer a large video file to pc and report back on transfer speeds?

    thanks

    32GB Class U1 sdhc card

Copied 1.1GB of video to my Ubuntu PC in 1 min 3.2 sec

    Speeds climbed from 14.4 to 16.3 MB/s

File transfer is generally slow on BlackBerry 10. I can download files faster through the browser than I can between the device and the media card. The same applies between device and computer, very slow.

I thought this topic was between the card and the PC through the device..

The only way I found to speed things up was to turn on USB storage model and bypass Link altogether:

Otherwise I found the performance of the SD card to blow dead bear if Link was in the mix.

I never use link for transferring files. always mass storage....

interesting observation I found in my testing just now. if I save the file on my device or micro sd the transfer speeds are the same. I will do further testing with different cables to confirm. (currently using a cheap usb cable)

But, you can't access internal device storage once you turn on mass storage. That only gives you direct access to the SD card - only one "removable disk" drive shows up on the PC.

No doubt, the creation of "network drives" with mass storage turned off, but allows both internal and media card access, slows things down.

ahhh....thanks for clarifying that....i automatically assumed by plugging the usb cable in that windows would detect usb mass storage devices (it does both the device and card storage) and the speed is slow as fawk.

once i selected usb mass storage option in the settings the transfer speeds jumped up to 12-13mbps which is decent.

thanks for the tip....will leave that turned on from now on....

When I turned mine in I got some sort of warning that Link couldn't sync in this mode. This may or may not matter to you but I thought it was worth mentioning.

The SD card isn't accessable by the device while mass storage is on. Just turn it on when you need to transfer files.

Oh, I don't know. I can still access my SD card files with my phone with mass storage turned on.

Interesting, perhaps it's just when it's plugged in.

That's possible. I didn't check that - and I'm not near my PC right now.

I know that the legacy BBs couldn't see the SD card if it was plugged in and mass storage turned on.
